Was gonna post this in the stupidly overpriced...but this level of stupid just deserves its own thread.

I have no idea if this is safe, smart or even legal...Thoughts?

At first it looks like a reasonably priced...but the more I read the more my face looked like:

For the record, this is what its supposed to look like:

If done well, it should be safe and legal. If not done well, yikes. As far as smart, that is a really hard thing to evaluate. Financially, most bike appearance mods are not smart as they cost money and often reduce the value. I have no idea if the R1M shock behaves well in that bike.

I've seen other bike models do swaps like that, mainly for cosmetics.

For mt10, I did quick google and see this.

So yeah, I wouldn't necessarily call it stupid.

I like it, too be honest. But there was nothing wrong with mt10 tail also.

I imagine if the damage warranted that, then wouldnt the bike have been written off/branded?

Most Yammies sisters have lots of interchangeable parts, probably an easy boltover.

I suppose this is what the broker refers to an unusual modification when hes setting up the policy?

Imo, this one is a grey area. He likely improved the suspension and the subframe is basically a body kit. So from a risk perspective, it's probably lower risk than a stock bike. Now, if you want them to pay for a new R1M rear end after a claim, you need to tell them you have it up front and risk being denied as they don't understand what is different.

Seems like a few guys have done it.

As suspected, that R1 seat had to come over as well. And it wasn't a perfect fit as well. Looks like they had to extend the seat pad forward and reupholster it.

I'd pass on this just based on the saddle. Touring on a SS seat is FML territory.

Isn't the MT-10 basically a naked R1? So the tail is just cosmetic, and as far as I understand, the MT-10 SP comes from the factory with the R1-M's suspension (although this guy only did the rear).

Looks like an easy mod.

There's also companies that make brackets to swap the new r1/r6 bodywork onto the prev. gens.

That's a cool mod but the bike has a "custom Italian made seat" and "roughly $7,000 of upgrades" - and it's listed for $10,000?
If $7,000 was spent on upgrades why cheap out and not replace the front tire when the "brand new rear tire" was done?

Because the R1 donor bike was in a front end crash and that part wasn't available?

Attempting to cut losses ... the bike is probably worth less than an unmodified stock one. Makes it hard to legitimately insure, too.
