Is there a Pan Am ticket sales update?

I don't feel the excitement.

Is all the prep hype like Y2K. The industrial world was going to grind to a halt with no power. Hospitals in the dark, people dying. Cars stopping in the street at midnight. Airplanes falling out of the skies. No TV.

Nothing happened. Did even one light bulb go dark?

How are ticket sales?

If they planned for a disaster and it didn't happen would they be disappointed?

If it wasn't for bitching on here and signs on the highway I wouldn't even know this thing existed.

"...organizers have sold about 400,000 of the 1.4 million tickets available for the Games..."

Considering all the advertising was done in the GTA (and horribly done), these games solidified the fact that we can't handle a world stage event (i.e. Olympics) and that only the execs on the committees walked away with fat paycheques.

I barely care about the Olympics. This is second-rate garbage that should be held in the middle of nowhere.

Would a top ranking athlete want to pull a hamstring or tendon in these games and risk not being able to compete in the 2016 Olympics?

for a lot of countries, this is a testing ground and actually sort of important qualifier to stay on national ranking to get funding and coaching.

I think the marketing team failed miserably. All their adverting had that grandeur and mystery of eloquent but simple pictures and words. Not a single date on any of the advertising. Always "2015". Sosubconsciously you keep putting away finding out more cuz you think you have more time. Like movies. "Coming soon" doesnt have the same definitive date as "june xx", therefore you dont pay attention to it as much, believing you will be notified of a firmer date closer to the release.

How about "sorry to screw with you Toronto, here are ticket rebates" to try and get local interest.

Winnipeg hosted the games twice and look at the wonders it did for that city (sarcasm)

Complete waste of tax payers money. Piss poor advertising. Its a shame that government executives and contractors can't host a world scale event properly. But then again, I think most people do not give a rat's azs about Pan Am games or any other amateur sports. The market and interest just is not there to justify so much investment.

Possibly the biggest waste of money I've seen. Hope it fails miserably (looks well on it's way) Another excuse for the rich to get richer. Such an un necessary expense.

There has been an undercurrent of confusion and negativism with regards to parking and getting around. While the sacrifices were directed at the locals I can see where visitors could have picked up on it and decided to go elsewhere. Eight days left to sell out.

At least Hamilton gets a new reusable stadium and Hamilton actually has a football team.

Total is up to 400,002. I bought 2 tickets. I might buy more though.

They are building a stadium near where I work, so the Pan Am games are definitely on my radar.

But yeah, this event has been poorly marketed. No one appears to be travelling to toronto to watch games, and i don't think there's enough demand for tickets in the GTA alone. The finals for each event will likely sell out (things like Basketball, Track and Field, Beach Volleyball) but the preliminaries will be thin, especially in the early days.

I see speed skating on roller blades and roller skate figure skating are pan am events, how is this stuff not on a waiting list for tickets................
