Is insurance premium directly related to engine size?

I am looking at upgrading from a 250 to a larger bike next season, and was checking on quotes with my state farm agent. It seems the premium is directly related to the size of the engine. These quotes were all for sport touring class bikes:

Engine Size : Premium per month

250cc : $65
500cc : $122
650cc : $154
800cc : $166
1000cc : $190

Note that these quotes are for my specific situation (25+, M2, 1 ticket), but I was surprised how directly linked they were to the engine size. Is this common for all insurance companies?

Only at statefarm you will get quotes per engine size only, They don't care if it is a cruiser or SS.

You would do well to take a gander at the stickies in this forum. The overwhelming majority is very much aware that Statefarm quotes like this,

As a followup, I got coverage from Jevco (through J. Duffy) for my new 1000cc bike. Not cheap, but not horrible either (for liability only anyway).
