iridium spark plugs - looking for informative opinions

hey gtamoto!

Looking for opinions.

I know iridium plugs last forever and as everything you should replace them according to the maintenance schedule.

The manual states that plugs should be inspected at 26,000km. BUT what if the plugs are 7 years old (original) with only 7,000km on them, would you replace them or wait for the 26,000km mark?

Looking for informative opinions.

Thanks!

Inspect means inspect, not replace. If you want to pull them for peace of mind go right ahead, it's not a bad idea.

Spark plugs wear out with use (mileage) not age. Or they get prematurely messed up because of carbon or oil fouling or use of the incorrect heat range, but if we assume that we are talking about a stock low-mileage engine here, those are unlikely - and independent of the number of years on the engine.

Only thing you might want to do is take them out and put them back in at least once every couple of years, if only to avoid the steel spark plugs seizing to the aluminum cylinder head.

Goes by Km not time on plugs. Just make sure to get the bike upto operating temp ANY time you start it to avoid fouling them.

Amen to that.
I have Bosch plugs for my car and recommend a change at 100k. At that mark the plugs seated themselves firmly into the heads and I needed a breaker bar to take them out. I even tried warming the engine to help.

I was almost scared to death

I normally use anti-seize but I'm not sure if the guy who did the gasket did.

I put Denso Iridium 5367 (IU31A) spark plugs in my bike, got them for $15 each from Factory Pro. No idea if it made a difference because I did so many upgrades at the same time, runs like a champ though :)
