Anyone know if I can connect my iphone5 (with cellular data) to a router at home to allow for better wifi range in the house?

I'd like to wire my Xbox to the router for online gaming instead of having to connect the phone to my laptop and then running an Ethernet wire to my Xbox.

The iPhone would be connected and disconnected from the router when I come and go from work etc...
 
You want to use your iphone to extend the range of your routers wireless internet? I don't think that can be done...

You can run a Ethernet wire from your xbox to your router and have a direct connection, that can work.
 
If you want a wireless repeater without any wiring look in to ddwrt. Even with ddwrt routers for a full speed repeater you would need two routers bridged together. You would be much better off wiring an aditional router closer to your Xbox.

Edit: do you want to use your iPhones data on your Xbox?

Yes. Get a DIR-825 and load OpenWRT on it. I do this all the time on with a iphone4s.
 
Thanks for the help! But Maybe I need to rephrase the question...

Can I tether my Iphone to a router to distribute the iPhone's data connection (3G/LTE personal hotspot) throughout the house? At the same time have my Xbox wired directly to the router for Xbox live?

Yes, I play on xboxlive using cellular data from my Iphone tethered to my laptop

Yes. I do this with a Dir-825 with openwrt loaded on it when my Internet goes down (which is often where I live). All hardwired devices can use my iPhones Internet connection.
