According to the news, iOS 5 is supposed to be released today. You'll need to upgrade to iTunes 10.5 in order to update your device. It'll run full-featured on iPad, iPad 2 and iPhone 4/4S and with reduced features on older devices.

I'm getting an iPhone 4S this week or next (whenever it arrives from my Telus pre-order) but I'll be putting iOS5 on my iPad tonight.

Is anyone else excited for this update?

Yep, so we might actually get them on Friday. Worst case Tuesday. I have a BB Pearl that's over 3 years old. I can't wait to get rid of it!! It really sucks not being able to type a whole word without the phone freezing and displaying an hourglass in the center of the screen.

Before you guys update, fair warning

A lot of people can't update because the Apple servers are get slammed ... my iPad was showing error after error. Did a little checking and it's happening to everyone. Problem is it leaves your ipad or iphone bricked until you can finally connect

Too me 2 hours to finally get to the point where the restore happened ...

If you need your iPhone to work, wait for a while before updating ... I was ****** it took so long, but it was only an iPad. If it was my phone, I would have been really ******

Updating my phone right now... I ditched my jailbreak a while ago and I'm getting by fine without it.

I decided to download it before i left for work and then update later, glad i did, it initially said 2 hours but 5 minutes later it said 3 and i suspect the time got a bit longer, it was done when i got home though.

2 things that screwed up - lost most of my saved voice mail and my game center name got screwed and i can't get it back

My GF updated.

It took awhile for her and when it was done all her contacts were gone. Icloud wouldn't backup her contacts and i had to go through and uncheck all the stupid **** it was trying to back up, but by then it was too late. It wiped her phone and restored it. (sans contacts)

^^^ *DERP* next time do a backup before updating your phone and you won't lose your contacts.

It did a backup while updating the phone. All of her pictures, apps, notes etc were saved....but when it tried backing up the contacts it attemtped it through ICloud (for some dumb reason) and said there was no room left on ICloud to back up the contacts. I went through the ICloud settings (it was just added) and I noticed it was saving alot of useless ****, so I set it so it only backed up the contacts. But it seems as if it was too late....contacts are all gone.

Another friend of mine said a similar thing happened to her.

Restore it again?

Not sure how it attempts to back up a pre-iOS5 phone to iCloud seeing as the functionality isn't there.... ?

I always ensure my contacts are synced to my Macbook's address book before doing updates. I do it manually in iTunes to be safe.

Meh....if it was my phone I'm sure I'd have figured it out by now. But it's my GF's and I don't really feel like sitting infront my PC and trying to figure it out.

Could be she missed a step while she was doing the update.

But everytime I update the Software on my IPhone, it always backs it up first. I'll pay more attention when I (If I) update my IPhone to IOS 5

EDIT: Searching online, it appears to be a common issue with the update.
