and this e-mail from her. This is pretty bizzare as far as scams go, and pretty obvious considering none of this shows up in my paypal account.

Also let me know your schedule, contact and location for the pickup
Here is the shipping agent's info that will be picking the money up

NB:I sent extra $100 for Western Union Charges

besides why would anyone in the UK want my crashed titleless ZZR, i mean really lol. I do not take your bet good sir!

Oh so that's how these scams work. For so long now I didn't realize how they could make money from sending me money through PayPal.

Are people really that gullible to fall for this trap?

So funny story, living in Edmonton i was looking to rent a house through an agency who works as an intermediary (so the owner doesn't have to deal with the renters, pays a fee, and so on). I mention to the lady who works for said rental company about all the adds on kijiji where they list something too good to be true, then respond to you with im an expatriate out of the country, blah blah blah, send us money and we'll send you the keys, and her reply is that she would have fell for that scam if she hadn't told her mother who pointed out the obvious. I couldn't believe that A) anyone would be that stupid or B) that she was openly admitting to that. All sorts man.

What they can do is simple.

Chargeback.

So, they actually send you $2800. Then send someone to pick it up.

You have the money and let the guys take the bike.

Then about 30 days from now you will get a $2800 debit from Paypal from your bank account because they did an "Item not received" chargeback.

You have no proof of shipping, so you have no grounds to claim they took the bike.

Paypal will not accept a receipt, a drivers licence copy or anything else other than tracking that they can verify with a major shipping company.

You lose you bike and your money.

Trouble is, they don't even have to be in Nigeria to do this...you can do this to someone local.
(I wouldn't suggest it if you value your life though.)

^gtfo so I can't state what happened to PayPal? They know this stuff goes on and they don't do anything about it? Seems like they would want to put an end to these scammers. More times this happens the more they lose credibility like Vegas judges.

Not sure how that makes sense, if i agreed to ship it through a shipping company, i would only release it to that shipping company and would have a tracking number, in which case im a happy guy.

In this case it appears they wanted me to western union money to the shipping company, because that makes sense. They didn't even actually send me money through paypal, so i'm not sure what funds they figured i'd be paying the shipping with.

Actually who am I to talk. I always get scammed into buying magic tricks from street performers.

I do a lot of business, and primarily through paypal as my method of payment..they have always been amazing with me.

They refunded me a chargeback from some scumbag in Montreal that tried to screw me for $500 last month...they protected me and my customers when my online cart got hacked for a day.

I can't say enough good things about them really. I know that sounds weird, but it's true.
(And there are tons of people with completely opposite stories to mine.)

It must be to do with the nature of my business and the fact that I play by the rules, and I am very good to my customers with policies like refund/returns, warranty etc.

However, the rules are the rules....and you have to know how to play them properly.

Even if you have proof of shipping they could claim the item is "not substantially similar" to what they paid for.
This is designed to protect people who pay for an iPad and get a brick in a box...but it can also be used against a retailer in a case of "friendly-fraud" as it is commonly called. "Item not received" and "item substantially different" chargebacks are the bane of all online retailers.

So they only protect the buyer? Like come on if I told them what happened that someone picked up the bike got a copy of his DL got a written receipt and contract they wouldn't try to help me out?

I nearly fell for one of these scams years ago when I was looking to rent a room out to a student. They even went so far as to send me fake Western Union money orders. I took them to the bank and asked them to not cash them unless they were legit. They weren't.

There's a whole forum dedicated to people who bait and scam the scammers... This particular thread is quite funny: http://www.thescambaiter.com/forum/showthread.php?t=109

I get these request when I posted my bike. It is a scam do not provide your paypal info. If you google paypal scams you will learn about this scam. Remember if it is too good to be true then it is not true.
