Requesting help from GTA member on inspecting bike

I just got my m2 this weekend and don't really know much of bikes and would pretty much rely on myself and maybe a mechanic if i can find one.

I am reading through this to get more information

http://www.clarity.net/~adam/buying-bike.html

Here are the things i am wondering

What should i be asking the seller?
Is it normal for 2009 bike to have 11000km on it?

any comment would be appreciated.

Also if anyone is willing to help and go inspect the motorcycle please pm me :)

EDIT: I was wondering if anyone lives near hamilton and guelph can help me inspect a bike?

Please pm me if you are willing to help a newbie member out. Its a 2011 Ninja 250r

Thanks!!

My 2006 bike has 14,000 on it ;) Mileage on the bikes is all over the place, so as long as the bike has been serviced properly, mileage shouldn't matter. And 11,000 for 3-yr-old 250 is about as good as you're going to get. Price is on the higher side, but it's spring, beginning of the riding season and should be expected. Get a mechanic to inspect a bike (Ted at Rosey Toes can come and take a look at it, for example).

2009 with 11000km is fine, I bought my 2009 my with 13000km.

you could prolly try to get it down to 3700

Check the chain slack. This is such an easy thing to adjust: if the seller has kept this one part of the bike within specification (34mm-45mm of play), then I would assume they've taken good care of the bike in other areas. I'd go with $3500-$3600

As for checking chain slack, just pull down on the chain A BIT, take a mental note of where the top of the chain pulled to. Then, pull up on the chain and take a note of where the top of the chain pulled to. If the distance it moved is between 1.3" - 1.7", it's good. (http://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/How_do_I_measure_chain_slack?)

When I bought my 2009 Ninja, I didn't check the chain. When I learned what chain slack was and checked the bike, it was waaaaayyy loose. And, now as I'm learning to do standard DIY maintenance, it shows that the previous owner didn't take care of it as well as they should have.

If you can get it for $3500 it would be a great deal for the bike. I would pay no more than $3700, but then again this is the season with the most demand for motorcycles hence competitive pricing.

Bike looks sweet tho and 11k km is nothing to worry about for a 09.

Good luck

I think 11,000 km is fine and that price seems a bit lower compared to other sellers for this time of year...i've seen most others in the $4000-4500 range. I got my 2010 Ninja for $4000 and it only had 574 km on it but that's because I got it in November.

Average pricing and a blue 2007+ ninja 250 seems to be in high demand. I wouldn't expect the seller to go much lower but you could always try.

My 2011 has more kms than that...

Last year I was looking for an 09 or newer, they were all around 10000 kms and all were going for around $4500 and this was mid summer, not beginning of the season, so no, I don't think that price is high... assuming of course the bike is in good condition.

I agree with most that you should be able to get it for 3600-3700... maybe a bit less if you're a good negotiator and they want it gone!!!

good luck

my 09 250 is approaching 41,000km...11k is nothing

Holy **** !

Mine is at 25k only.

I think I will upgrade before I hit 30-35s tho. It will get extremely hard to sell it after that point.

If I don't, I may catch up with you this season tho =)
