Insurance shell game

Bought my first bike May 2012. Got a brand new SV650. I had called around for quotes prior to buying it.

Best quote I got was TD/MM. They quoted me $1300. Didn't care if I had taking a course or not. The fellow I spoke to told me that all they cared about was experience and lack of claims. He told me that after one year my insurance would fall to about 1/2 or $700 +/-.

So I called back this week to inquire why my rates have not changed. The new agent I spoke to did not know anything about what I was talking about. He tells me that I am all signed up for the maximum deductions (house, other vehicles, etc). He even told me that I have been credited for my motorcycle safety course.

I am 37, have been driving a car since 16. No tickets, no accidents. No claims. I was under the impression the SV650 was insurance friendly.

Anyone else thinking either their paperwork is horrible or they are running a scam?

Anyone else have an experience like this? I am going to call back and try and sort through this. I note that all of their calls are recorded for quality assurance purposes. Certainly they can dig up the conversation I had with their agent.

Insurance companies cannot give you an accurate quote if it isn't within 30 days of signing. At least thats what I was told. It is not set in stone (or on paper) either if they told you but isnt what is actually stated on the contract.

To be honest, that promise of a future rate drop wasn't worth much.

However, given your age, your record and the bike, it seems like you could be paying less - might be time to go through the list again and get new quotes.

since your 30+ consider giving all state a try. I was with SF for 5+ years, then switched over. For reference, late 20's, clean record, 2 cars and a house, on an 08 1000RR for $64/month, but I'm in K/W. This is who I went with:

"Redfern, Grant" <GRedfern@allstate.ca>

^^ Grants the man, the guy did amazing work for me and friends while at SF, alas his quotes for me at Allstate were not that good.

With that being said, g/f has an sv650, 31, pays 700 a year full coverage with Duffy i think

So I went to the MM site today and priced out a 2009 Triumph Street Triple R. To my surprise, I was quoted at $762. I find that hard to believe as the value and engine size exceed my SV650. So I quoted my bike. Again, surprised to see $742 as the quote. So I called MM. They tell me that because I already have insurance for a motorcycle, it looked to the quote like I was adding a second bike. Tonight, I ran their quote software again and did not select the "do you already have insurance with us for an: automobile, house, motorcycle, other". I was quoted $742 again.

Seriously. What gives here?

$742 is about what I would expect for a 37 year old, actually. Maybe your current profile that they have on-file is missing something key?

I'm currently paying $504 per year with full coverage and $2 million liability through TD/MM.

Here's Riders Plus quote with $1 million liability only....
