Insurance Q on new to me bike......maybe.

Sorry, first post under a new registration, was a member several years ago but got out of road bikes for a couple years while testing the dirt.

Anyway, it's good to be back and what brings up my question.

Looking at several "cheap" bikes as I'm on a very tight purchase budget and have spotted a fairly decent '01 ZX9 R.

Problem is this, my current Ins Co doesn't do SS bikes so I need to find one that will. The bike has an abnormal VIN that wasn't/Isn't a Kawi # and the bike is located (owned) by a Dealer and they were very upfront about the VIN issue and also claims it was insured and registered when he took it as a trade.

So, for any Brokers or those in the know, before I make a million phone calls will it even be possible for me to get insurance on this bike givin the VIN issue?

The bike is inexpensive and all I'd want is the bare minimum coverage to keep me legal. If I wreck I wreck and I'll take my lumps.

I know it'd be easier just to find another bike, and/or stay away from SS all together but I've been riding since '95 and had everything but a SS. I think it's time.:D

Thanks in advance

getting insurance on a ZX9R is no problem, but first let's find out why this one has an abnormal/wrong VIN.

There's likely a reason it's inexpensive.

I asked the same question to the Dealer and he didn't know. Other than stating that it wasn't stolen, lol.

Apparently runs strong and they put on a couple new tires that it needed. It does have some cosmetic damage but that I'm not real worried about.

My thoughts were that it might have been a re-claim Insurance thing and rebuild but that doesn't quite explain an improper VIN. It's a Harley Dealer sitting with a crotch rocket in his showroom, lol.

Get the VIN and to to the MTO and buy a UVIP. See what it says.
