Insurance just for deal's gap

Most insurance companies refuse to insure a vehicle if it's also used for racing purposes. No insurance company will write such a short-term policy either. I highly doubt you'll find coverage for a small trip to the US on a track bike.

How about options stateside? Or would that require me to get it registered in the USA first?

I am assuming you are looking for liability only here (I can't imagine anyone writing more than that). I have heard that you can get a policy that provides you with liability insurance on non-licensed motorized vehicles. It is intended to cover you when you borrow friends toys (in case they don't have insurance). Whether you could stretch such a policy to your non-licensed track bike on the street is a big question. My friend that told me about it pays yearly and it is a few hundred dollars.

Is your bike registered as fit and platable? If you could plate it, you could buy normal insurance (telling the company it doesn't go on the track and for the love of god keep it off the track) then cancel after the trip paying the minimum retained premium. This is annoying for the insurance company, but shouldn't be considered fraudulent as your bike never came near a track while it was carrying insurance. This game will likely cost you multiple hundreds by the time you are done, only you can decide if it's worth it.

What is the financial risk to the insurer in the worst case? Let's say $500K?
How much would any individual charge to put a half a million at risk for the above venture?
