Insurance for out of country

We're trying to plan a trip for next summer and was thinking of shipping the VStrom over to Thailand or Singapore and spending some time traveling through Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, etc. I was sort of inspired by the Vietnam trip they did on Top Gear.

I realize shipping is expensive. I'm checking that out at the moment so that may kill it right there - or maybe just fly over and buy a Honda Cub :) but I'm with Primmum and they will not insure the bike out of North America.

Has anyone insured a bike for a trip like this and who did you use?

Thanks

An insurance company has to be licensed to provide insurance in a given province/state -- I highly doubt that you'll find a Canadian insurer able and willing to provide coverage in Thailand for you. You will probably have to purchase insurance from a Thai insurance company.

Do you know how scary that sounds :)

MotorcycleExpress said they can do it and its not a problem being Canadian. For 6 weeks it will be around $300, for comprenhensive, a little more if I don't use them to ship the bike. Its kind of what I was expecting.

You can rent big adventure bikes in Vietnam and it'll probably be the same or cheaper than shipping your bike over. Look into a company that provides tours like that as well.

Edit: Here you go. http://www.edelweissbike.com/en/allTours/true/cont/asi/south-east-asia.html

Interesting . . . they certainly sound like a specialty/niche insurer. A trip on a bike through Thailand sounds awesome :)
