Insurance claim check question

Hi Guys,

Quick question. My dad's car got damaged in a hit and run. The insurance after deductible is paying 1100. They claim they need to send the check directly to a shop to get it fixed. Did the law change? I had a claim a number of years ago and i was sent the check. What if you want to do the repairs by yourself?

Can someone provide any insight here?

You would have to have their adjuster look at the vehicle and then you would have to negotiate a settlement to take a lump sum payment, Also your car is valued that much less until proof of repair in case you were to have any other accidents before then. Also the car has to be in certifiable condition I believe as well.

Not an expert, but this is from my knowledge.

They may not even want to insure you until proof of repair is provided, be careful.

Just an assumption, but maybe its because of the rampant increase in insurance fraud that's been going on as of late...

They will only pay the full cost of repairs, if the vehicle is in fact being repaired. Hence the reason they want to make the cheque payable to the body shop, although more commonly to your Dad and the body shop.

If your Dad wants payment to him directly they can't control if the car is being fixed. So in that case they will likely offer you a Cash out which will be less than you are currently expecting (The $1100).
