Is not happening today because it's raining. In the meantime, does anybody have any tricks? It's 5x5x5/16 angle. I have to gouge out 4in. x 5 in. deep in mortar. Was going to use 3/8 concrete bit and chisel and just work it out thru sheer determination. Is there a better way?

1) Concrete blade on an angle grinder.
2) I've got a Stihl gas saw, with concrete blade if you're planning on really get'n into things.
I've got both if you need to borrow either, or.

LOL, Gary you got one of them slugger saws? I suppose if I cross braced my step ladder that wouldn't be too unsafe going in sideways. Actooly you got me to thinking now, I've got an old skil saw with 7in concrete blade. I can put that in one of my hand held grinders with guard removed. That will get me most of the way there. The rest I can do with drill and chisel. Brilliant Gary. You wanna hold the water hose while I run the grinder?:p

Had it for years. 12" blade should get you the 5" depth you're after.
If your arbour size jives, you're gold.
Why not just use the old skil saw?
I hope you're not going to all this trouble so you can install a wooden frame door?
How do you plan on securing the lintel in a 'ditch'?
Hose holding is not my forte.
If you need a hand, lemme know.

Just picked up a 10" blade @ Lowes (how come they NEVER have the teflon chain saver in stock?) to fit the 7" skil saw. All I have to do is remove the guard.

There is an existing 44" concrete lintel 4" on either side of 36" R.O. I will be putting the new 54" lintel under that for a new R.O. of 46". I will fill the gouged out mortar with PL400 and pound it home.

This will give a 42" door saving me from bringing the bikes to the L.R. via laundry and kitchen. It's all about efficiency:glasses8:
