Inspections for oilers.

Hey guys,

Looking to do my first track day sometime this year. I was reading some of the pre ride inspection requirements.

I ride a 1990 GSXR 1100 oil cooled. Do the inspections vary much for oil cooled bikes? They did mention water in the rad as part of the inspection. Naturally, I don't have a rad, just an oil cooler. Will this cause me to fail the inspection etc. or do they just overlook it in this case?

Also, what would you guys recommend as a first time or the best way to approach a first track day?

Thanks .

Not a problem there is no rad or antifreeze system to inspect it wll be fine.
Take a course TMP offers a intro to track course that would be a good way to get your feet wet.

Just FYI, your GSXR has like 9 litres of oil in it (I'm exaggerating..a bit..). If you go down on that bike with stock side covers, they'll quickly smoke through those and you'll dump a lot of oil on the track. If you intend to do more track days, you should get race engine covers..they'll take most crashes without wearing through (the stock covers are like butter..) and you won't make everyone miserable with your mini-Exxon Valdez.. :)

Toughened engine case covers are mandatory on oil cooled GSXR's for roadracing, and they are a darn good idea for a track day bike, too.

when it comes to oil, at the track you must also be considerate of the wildlife(marshals).

OP, let us know what track day you will be attending. Your bike is pretty much my all time favourite motorcycle ever, and I would love to watch someone wrestle one around the track!

Wrestle is the word! What a tank.. :)

I got a 91 gsxr 750 and 98, what a difference between the two! I like the 91 better

I had an 89 Slingshot 750..man..it was work pushing that thing around Shannonville...

the 98 is way nicer to ride, I just like the old beast

They have a great sound! Brakes were good..position was good..it was just heavy! :) That was the best carburetted bike I've ridden..so smooth off and on the gas. Spent days jetting that thing! :)

Thanks for the responses guys!!! I turned the notifications a while ago so I didn't see the responses till now.

I have the hardened engine cases already, traksport covers to be exact. I'm looking forward to the track days for sure.

The bike is not that heavy lol. Its been lightened quite a bit and has a modified swingarm and EBC rotors etc. Not much stock left and all the unnecessary weight has been removed. Probably a bit over the 400 pound mark. I was used to tossing my 96' 1100 around , by comparison, this bike is much lighter heh.

I am quite excited to flog this old girl and see what she can do.

Probably a bit over the 400 pound mark.

Yeah, a bit. Stock wet weight (no fuel) was about 500 lb.

Whatever it weighs, it is all kinds of awesome and I want to watch you track it!!!

HAHA thanks man. Ive got a 96' 1100 Swingarm on it now but it will be receiving a shorter 95' GSXR 750 swingarm by this winter. Its 55mm shorter so it should help with the turning a bit. Its got a K8 Gsxr 1000 shock in it with a 650lb Eibach spring.

I will be sure to give you the heads up. heh.
