In wall speakers

Anyone have good info. on in wall speakers? recommendations?

Im looking to replace the floorstanding speakers I currently have. I'm not a crazy audiophile but do appreciate the odd online game and movie.

cheers

You get what you pay for and unless you plan on living there for sometime you can loose on the deal as obviously they are somewhat permanent. I have previously used the Paradigm SA series in a ceiling mount configuration and they were above acceptable when it came to sound quality. The cheaper ones just sound "tin'ee".

Aren't there those ultra slim speakers that can be hung on walls? Is that an option OP?

Not sure if these are in your budget, but, they will not disappoint:

There are more Klipsch in wall speakers listed here:

Be sure to read specs re room size / power output prior to carving holes, etc.

Update tv and stereo stocks a few different brands and sizes, give them a call and see what they have to say(or better yet, go in a listen for yourself). In walls aren't really my thing, but I can understand the appeal.

I agree...but have a look at the reviews...
people are pretty good at sharing their opinion especially if it's not a good product.

Im not sure about your reasoning for going with in wall? And if you are dead set on in wall mount
I just bought a BOSE system for my work shop, it was $650 with floor sub and 2 wall mounted speakers that are pretty small..I spent another $80 on wall mounts from BOSE, but it was all worth the money as this system pumps hard for what it is...Sound quality is great! even at high volume...I didn't want to deal with the wire routing of a full 5.1 speaker system, and Im really happy with the BOSE setup...It actually kicked the **** out of the some of the $1000+ systems they had in the store....

Thanks everyone!

The floorstanding speakers I have aren't the greatest and they take up quite a bit of space, I figured with a $100 gift card from future shop I'd be half way to a decent pair of in walls and clean up the man cave a bit. I do have access to the rear of the wall (unfinished laundry room). I'm not so sure I'd be sold on the "hang on wall" speakers due to the clearance behind them affecting sound quality. Don't most decent speakers need "ports" on the rear to help vibration and air movement for better sound?

Cheers

I will second the BOSE setup. Was in a similar situation as the OP, went with the BOSE CineMate GS II. Two small speakers and a woofer, but WOW, what a dynamic sound they have - really does feel similar to our old 5 speaker set up which cost a small fortune.
The subwoofer could pack a little more punch, but for movies/games, its perfect.

Don't know when they bumped up the price, but I bought it for considerably less during boxing week.

I would highly recommend Monoprice products, including their in-wall speakers. I'm running their 6.5" 2-ways for surrounds in back and 8" 3-ways for the fronts. The center channel and sub I use are Paradigm, and are not in-wall. The sound is quite excellent, as is the build quality.

Their pricing on wiring, cabling, and other equipment is pretty hard to match in Canada, and many audio/video enthusiasts I know purchase from them all of the time.

Here is the review page on one of their in-walls: http://www.monoprice.com/products/p..._id=1083703&p_id=6816&seq=1&format=4#feedback

A cheaper alternative would be to take a look at the in wall speakers offered by monoprice. They get great reviews.... and their pricing is unbeatable
