In case you were wondering what the top stolen motorcycles of the year were....

Harleys don't get stolen as much because there's a big chance the owner will show up and beat you to death.
Sportbikes get stolen because they are easy to part out, and even if the little sissy that owns it shows up, they will run and call the police only to find out the cops don't give a **** and might show up in a few hours to take a report.

It's not a very useful report. It states the most stolen car is a Honda Civic and the most stolen bike BRAND is a Honda.
That's like saying the most stolen car is a Honda, which is true but not telling the whole story.
By being more specific they allow Honda Element drivers to breath a collective sigh of relief.

If they said the most stolen motorcycle was the Honda Ruckus, then we would have a better picture of what thieves were after...
As it is they merely tell us that the most popular motorcycle brand in the US is also the most stolen brand, the other stats
also reflect brand sales popularity.

All good points. The only Honda bikes that I know of that are stolen on a regular basis are the CBR and RR series bikes... generally of the 600cc range, for obvious reasons all mentioned above.

The stats basically tell us there isn't a desired model and theft incidence just matches sales. These days, stolen bikes are broken down, you want popular bikes.

what a funny story. i thought it would tell us what kind of bikes, .. obviously it was gonna be the more popular manufacturers.

If the sixth category was 914 scooters and ATVs from Taotao, I wonder what makes up the remaining 13,000 bikes stolen? Maybe they're all Harleys but the owners were too shy to say what brand of bike they lost when the cops showed up on ST's to file a report....

Not too sure about that, why would a thief be concerned about being beat up by a hairdresser or lawyer in a SOA t-Shirt?
