IM Leathers Hamilton - 30 years of custom leathers and alterations

I wanted to share a great resource with other GTA riders – IM leathers in Hamilton (385 King St. West, Hamilton, 905-525-7121) can build you any leathers that you dream up. You can show up with a picture or drawing and it can be created right there in the shop. Jennifer is continuing the business that her father Ivan founded back in the early 80’s where he created all kinds of leather gear for fashion, bikers and champion motorcycle racers! They’ve made me 3 sets of leathers over the last 15 years that I’ve crashed pretty hard on the street and on the racetrack. I’ve also owned many other kinds of leathers when I couldn’t get to IM for new ones and they’ve done an excellent job altering and modifying them. Jen can install: body armour, speed humps, zippers around waistline to join pants to jackets, zip in leather throat coats, add pockets, zippered vents, replace cheesy textile panels in your leathers with actual Kevlar or perforated leather, perforate your leathers, add Velcro for your knee sliders and anything else you can dream up. Jen is also a graphic designer so she can produce any symbol or graphic on your leathers. IM builds everything from scratch in house as their suppliers have almost every colour, material and option that you’d need. IM also provides top customer service after the sale, something almost unheard of in the Motorcycle leather industry.

This 2 piece set was made by Ivan 2 years ago, originally it was 3 colour, full armour with speed hump for $800. The price went up from there when I started asking for extra pockets and colours etc.

First step is the fitting suit made from material. IM will make a suit on the spot and adjust it to fit you perfectly. Marks are made for reference points and your suit is built using this as a template, another fitting will follow usually in a couple of weeks and the suit can be picked up after that.

Jen does alterations to any leather gear including new leathers from other manufacturers that need to be adjusted or repaired.

Glad to see ivan's company continues. I bought my very first race suit from Ivan in 1986 I crashed the hell out of it while I was learning. I sold it in the 90s I bet it still is on the track somewhere.
Back in the day the suits were heavy didnt breathe and the liner was made from woven crazy glue but likely the toughest suit on the planet. I am certain that it saved me from more than a few skin grafts. Thankfully I learned and started not falling as much so switched to a vented suit that was much lighter. (Spyke sponsorship helped) but still very grateful to my IM suit while coming up. :)

I have a 2 piece suit that is too tight. Can she make it to a size larger? And how much do you think that Will cost?

Jen's pricing for alterations is very reasonable and you can add some pockets and venting too while she's got it apart (never enough pockets!). contact her at 905-525-7121 she can likely give you a ball park estimate over the phone but she'll probably have to see them to get it to the exact dollar. All the jobs I've had done at IM have been more than reasonable considering the quality of the finished product. She'll be at the January show, maybe call Jen and see if you can drop em off at the show???
