Im an idiot, killed my battery

So I was playing around with my bike yesterday. Adjusted brake light, did some cleaning and polishing. Well I'm an idiot. I left my key in and on!!!! Battery is now very dead. This morning I took it out and grabed my battery charger and hooked it up but just had 0 0 0. Not sure if I'm doing something wrong here. I put a new battery in in the spring and it's a different type. I don't feel like it's charging. Do I need to put the battery back in the bike and then hook up the charger? I'm unsure if I'm doing something wrong. Any idea?

try leaving it on the charger over night. Does the charging light come on on your battery charger ?

Yeah - the light comes on. But the zero goes from the 1st square, then the 2nd and then third. Normally I hear the click and see the numbers change. When it gets to Full it says ful. Maybe because it's completly dead it doesn't register yet. I'll put it on when I get home and leave it overnight. Just doesn't seem right to me....

One way to kill a lead/acid battery is to leave it uncharged for extended periods

Sucks to be down, hopefully only until tomorrow.

On the plus side, you now have your first motorcycle story and it does not involve major damage to bike or body!

Sometime I may relate how I set fire to my first motorcycle. And then again, maybe not.

Gee - I think I feel better, glad I didn't set it on fire!!!! That sounds like a good story!

It was just overnight so hopefully it will charge back up. Hay is there a chance thats it's really dead and won't charge?

What size battery? What battery charger? A completely dead battery can take hours to charge depending on the charging rate of the battery charger. For example, a 14 ampere-hour battery would take 14 hours to reach full charge with a 1 ampere-hour battery charger.

Ok - Things are good. It seems I was getting a no read on the charger this morning but It's now working right. It's charging up!!!! Thank you for everyones help. Its great to have a place to get hints and tips.
I still think the story of the dude who set his bike on fire could be an interesting one!
Cheers. I'll be back riding tomorrow. One day dawn wasnt too bad.

this is what happens to people who use their kill button to turn off everything. time for a new battery for now, next time it could be a stator or a rotor, or rec/ reg, use the god dame key- it's metal not plastic.,
