Idle high temp, Normal??

So today I started my bike up after it hibernating all winter. I had the garage open and It was in idle for a little bit, got it up to 160c and I gave her a few revs and about 2 mins after it just hanging out. I hear the fan running for a long time so I check the temp and the bike got up to 220c.

I wasnt even revving or riding it, and it wasnt really hot today. Is this normal for a bike to reach 220c at idle in +2 weather?

What was your normal operating temp last year? Also are you sure its 220C, not F? What kind of bike? Any damage? Coolant changed lately?

The more info the better

Sorry, it was at 220F. I just thought it was unusual for a bike to reach 220F just from sitting at idle in +2c weather.

That's really odd. Even in the dead of summer with my air cooled srad, I have maybe hit 110

I hit 110 to but it's not 110 F, did you always use the Fahrenheit setting? 220f= (around 110) isn't bad, if you leave it on long enough the fan will kick in

Yah, It was ushally at F.

From it sitting at idle for around 5 mins, the temp shot up to 216, fan was spinning and got it back to 210 than a min later it went back up to 220 and fan kicks in and gets it back to 210, I just find it odd that the temp would get so high from doing nothing and +2c weather.

Doing nothing means no air is flowing through your rad. Bikes were made to run :)

Didn't you just flush the rad? Did you bleed all the air out after refilling?

Could depend on the bike. Some Ducs had recalls due the thermostat staying closed.

I suppose that's a good point lol, Still weird tho in +2 weather it would get so hot. Wasnt sure if something was wrong or it's a normal occurrence

Hmm, would sitting your bike all winter cause something to not work/function properly?

The problem was that the thermostats where faulty. Recalled. Also had problems with the coolant. Wrong type fluid. Also a recall. This was at the end of last year. Was really weird. Bike ran fine all Summer then the vast change of temperature showed up with fault thermostat in the colder weather. Thermostat was closing early and that caused the problem. Remaining closed. Quick trip to the dealer and fixed.

Ahh I see.

Hopefully I was just being paranoid and its normal and nothing was messed up lol. Gona go do the coolant flush sometime next week and see if it makes things any better

Absolutely nothing to worry about. Sorry if I came across wrong. Possible if it is not too difficult to get too, you could change the thermostat, just to be on the safe side.

Are you new to owning an R6? I am sure it's F and not C. R6 is a warm running bike. At idle (depending on how long you ran it for 220 F is normal). Once the bike starts moving 180 F is average.

ambient air temperature shouldn't have too much of an effect of the temperature at idle, as far as i know.

Yup, I got it in September and played with her maybe 2 weeks, than put it away for winter and never seen her again till the other day, I started it up and noticed the temp. And yes it was in F. I made a mistake (always used to using C) lol.

Minimal effect at best. Radiation won't shed nearly as much heat as convection.
