Im looking into getting one of these. The past few days have been hot as you all know and my A*'s airflow sniper jacket still damn hot.

I understand that it wont give me the same protection as a full jacket.

Serious response only pls.

I know " better sweat than bleed "

"ATGATT" and all those sayings

Im thinking maybe some protecrion is better than none on those hot days

the main question is this vest worth it?

If your going to squid anyways, why not have the most protection you can.

ATGATT > Jacket
Jacket > Stryker vest
Stryker vest > squid

Yes it will help protect internal organs in case of an impact better then nothing but you will still get rashed if you go down.

I personally would look into a nice mesh textile jacket or something along those lines......

I wear a Teknic Aquavent jacket (CE shoulders/elbow and ALL mesh) over my stryker vest when it's bastard hot out. Works very well. You still sweat, and it's still damn hot, but it's better than a full textile or leather, vents incredibly well and won't give you rash. It was mentioned in another thread, but although you'll get impact protection from the vest, if you slide, it'll melt on the hot roadway.

Note the front part of the vest is not rated at all. The back protector part is CE rated (not sure if level 1 or the newer back protector ce2 rating). So yes its better then nothing as others have said. I personally would look into a full mesh jacket.

In reply to your question,

The vest should be used as an addition to something. The vest only protects your chest cavity and spine. It does not cover your soft abdomen and limbs. Good in theroy, bad in practice. I don't find them very comfortable either...just my 2cents.

I finally got a mesh jacket this year and when I took the liner out, it was actually like riding without a shirt...except less hot (since the sun hits the jacket instead of your skin). I actually had a running nose when I got home lmao - I'd just give up if I had to take the highway home with that thing.

But if you're gonna get a stryker, make sure it fits you properly. If it's gonna be better than nothing, it has to at least be snug on you.

Or if you're a small, I'll sell you the mesh jacket. It's a shift air avenger and I don't intend to wear it again

if you still buying it, check GP_bikes, they list it for like 96 bucks.. I have not been able to locate a cheaper price...

Stryker is a nice thing, even though it's not much more than a back protector.
Don't forget it's part of a system, with matching elbow and knee protectors available.
Those three parts, combined with some serious gloves plus footwear that covers your ankle points (like even high-top running shoes) and you're good for the realllly hot weather.
(But go drive around in the country anyway, it's really no fun in town anymore...)
The elbow and knee guards, I actually bought them for my rollerblades which scare the hell out of me.
They are by far the kewlest rollerblade armour money can buy, heheh... top-quality.

I doubt the Stryker is cooler than a mesh jacket which provides more protection..

+1 to these ^

I bought one last year, wore it a few times and sold it about a month ago. Not worth it and I started to feel silly wearing it to be honest. The vest itself gets really hot behind the back and chest pieces since they're thick and pressed firmly against you. On unbearably hot days I just go full squid if I'm staying in the city. F*** it.

Mesh jacket is way cooler (in both ways). I ended up buying another one this season and will put my old one up on kijiji.

Love my JR mesh - cool up to about 30 degrees - and with a liner good down to 10 or so.

Good armor and you hardly know it's there.....got mine used for $50 - I suspect it's cooler than the vest -

I wouldn't waste a penny on the squid vest if you're wearin nothing over it. People buy those to look 'hard'.

Ride in your tshirt.
