Hey, I've been looking at getting a couple of icon products. I haven't had too much experience with their products. I bought the icon overlord jacket when I started riding as an entry level jacket, it was a good jacket but i decided to upgrade for better protection. Since then I've been wearing A* leather jackets.

I came across the icon hypersport prime leather jacket and pants. They seem decent for the price.

Since I've never really worn any of their leather jackets of pants, I was looking for some feedback.

Here are the links:

Thanks for the input

I've got the Hypersport Prime jacket (red & white accents) and those pants.

It's a good jacket. Ventilation is pretty good overall but very good on the arms. So much so that on days where the temp is below about 15oC my arms begin to feel chilly at speed. It's got a good liner (removable.) It's also got a number of good pockets and storage cubbies though no outside pockets; they're all on the inside. Three of them (I think it's three...) are zippered for security. There's a couple of very small storage pockets (think the size of a USB key or garage remote) which I use for my garage door remote. It's located such that I can just push on the front of the jacket and push the button in behind. Very handy.

The leather is high quality. The jacket has a mass and gravitas to it. I continue to be surprised at how heavy it is to pick up though it doesn't feel massive while wearing it. It ain't no mesh jacket. It also smells like leather :)

The armour and padding is high quality. Haven't had the chance to use them (knock on wood).

Overall, I like the pants. Good fit overall, good leather quality again. Knocks? If I'm not wearing my boots (A* SMX-6) the pantleg lowers flap in the breeze because they're quite thin and insubstantial. Makes sense if they're intended to be used with boots like the SMX-6s; you wouldn't want thick, heavy material fighting for space in the boot. These pants have no pockets (that I'm aware of...) But they're good at keeping the wind out. I sized mine such that I could use them as an overpant if I want. I usually wear shorts under them but jeans fit too.

I'd recommend both based on my experience with them.

Awesome! Thanks for the reply. From reading reviews and watching some videos this seems to be the consensus on the pants and jacket.

How have you found zipping the jacket to the pants? I've read some reviews that this is a pain because of where the zipper on the pants is located.

Maybe they're worth a shot. You can't beat the price. I'm just a little iffy coming from always wearing a* gear to switching over.

They do seem like a good compromise compared a full blown two piece suit.

Again thanks for the input!

I have an Icon Overlord leather jacket. They never had anything I wanted and then is saw this. Quality is fantastic and a better fit for an athletic/muscular build than anything I've encountered off the rack.

They have discontinued the Icon Overlord jacket and replaced it with this Hypersport version. If you liked the Overlord, this one is a better version of it.

I've not tried that since that's generally done for, say, a track day and I haven't done that either.

I can try it later though and get back to you. :)

I've had an Overlord Prime jacket and Icon Super Duty 2 gloves for years. The velcro on the gloves is the only problem I had with them and they got a lot of wear. Eventually it gave out and they tend to not stay closed, so I replaced them this year (with Dainese). They actually lasted through a few lowsides.

As for the jacket, the zipper has finally started to have problems where it misaligns at the bottom and pops open if I don't zip it carefully but I've had it for four of five years. Other than that, no problems with it, I've worn it rain or shine and used it as an all season jacket despite it being perforated. It's been soaked through tens of times and the leather has never suffered as a result

I have the Overlord Prime Leather jacket and I did have the full Overlord gloves. Loved both of them.

If I was going to buy a new leather jacket today it would be the Hypersport hands down.

I have the Icon compound jacket and pants for 2 years now. I have worn them in Spring, Summer & Fall and in all kinds of weather. They have been soaked for extended periods and I have never had a problem/issue. In the summer, there is plenty of air flow and in the spring/fall just add the liner and you will stay warm. I have a stocky/muscular build so Icon's American cut suits me just fine. I'm unable to fit into A* or Dianese.

Both the jacket and pants have a mesh liner to help keep you cool on humid days,D30 armor (which I hope to never test), the pants knee armor is adjustable. The jacket and pants already come pre-curved. Both are excellent products and I will buy the Hypersport Jacket and pants when the time is right.

I also have the overlord riding denim. These fit a little tight and you may want to purchase one size up if you have large/muscular legs. I am 5'5" ,190lbs; having the pants shorten did not affect the armor placement.

Road tested Overlord Prime jacket and gloves lol. Zero road rash, did fracture my arm and crack a few ribs. The way I landed my shoulder took the first impact with no damage to me but all my weight and momentum transfered to my elbow forearm area when I rolled which jammed my elbow into my ribs. Other then a few small scrapes to the outside plastics you would never know.

Great. Thanks for the feedback. I hope I never get to test out how it hold up, but it's good to know that it does.

ive crashed in overlord prime jacket and pants, went to the ER. they held up fine and still use them. i was out pitching baseball within a week so the gear did its job and took the damage. i find them a bit too cool for less than 20 degrees... i use the liner and a sleeved shirt for under 20. i use it for 20-30 degrees mostly. i want to get another jacket for 10-20 degrees.
