Hydro Cost

I ended up 90 a month less to go with TOU pricing. The bump up after 1000kw kills it for us as we use 3000-5000 thousand kw per month. It is cheaper to shift almost all use to off or mid peak.

I'm going to go back and see what I've been at.

With 2 EV's that charge stricty during off peak (and consuming around 35+kwh/night in the dead of winter every night) plus careful use of most other power hungry appliances (dishwasher, etc) in mostly off peak hours, needless to say we get a very big saving from Time Of Use off peak rates.

When the changes went into effect back in the spring to "save people money" our bills actually went up noticeably as were paying more 24/7 at that point. It also made us more wasteful since charging the cars (or running the dishwasher, or doing laundry, etc etc) during peak hours made zero difference than charging them at 3AM.

My place in the south is Halton Hills don't know if they are more or less then any other township.

Rates are the same everywhere I believe. You just have to look at your last few bills make the calculations and you will know what plan is best.

Buy stock in the company, that way when they screw you over with the rates you score on the stock market.

100 g in hydro one would pay most people's bills for life from the dividend. And the increase in stock price would be a bonus.

Not anymore. Selling it to private sector has now bent every future ratepayer over the proverbial monopoly bucket.
Not much different than the 407....

What I do not get is what everyone is powering. We run about 400 to 500 kWh a month, might hit 600 for a month in the summer on the AC. Last bill was under $80 all in. Family of four.... Having a background in EE I keep an eye on what things consume when we buy them etc..... might be some opportunity here for people to lower their bills via consumption.

Hot tub/pool are a big part. Pool pump was replaced with variable speed this summer so that will help.

All clothes go through electric dryer at off-peak rates.

My wife sucks at turning off lights so they are all LED now (every light was incandescent when we moved in).

Our A/C is a 10 seer ~14 years old and low on charge. If we turn it on, it runs dawn to dusk. Windows on south side with no low-E does not help. Both of those are on the list of upcoming projects.

All led lights but sewage treatment plant, hot tub pool, heat pump for pool, water pump and 8 ton heat pump i have no other utilities except hydro. When we lived in the city 500 was the norm. Plus electric car getting charged every night

My previous bill would only have had a $4 difference. I'll need to enter all the bills from this year to see if one plan is significantly different than the other.
