Hydraulic Press in Scarborough

I’m looking to use an hydraulic press to put a new wheel bearing in my Ford Edge. I’m hoping someone in Scarborough can help me out. I don’t expect anything for free I’m just trying to minimize costs as it’s an older vehicle.

I’m near Warden and St Clair if anyone is able to assist.

Cheers

Depending on how ornery it is feeling, you may be able to get away with a large nut and bolt or floor jack using vehicle weight as the other face of the "press".

I did contemplate this but was sceptical if it would actually work. I don’t want to get that deep in and run into problems.

Dad has a press but it’s a couple hours away and I’d hate to drive more than necessary on the existing unit.

The other option I considered is taking the part to my mechanic and have them press out and new one in.

Thanks for the suggestion GG

I think there's a pressing tool you can borrow from Canadian Tire to do this.
Partsource, being related to Canadian Tire, also has the same program.

And just a heads up - the way it works is that you buy the tool upfront as a deposit, and when you return it they refund you the amount. They're basically trying to head off all the instances of people purchasing brand new tools and then returning them after using them. This way there's only one set that gets used.

That’s how the CT program used to work but I went in today and was told they no longer loan tools, even though it’s still on the website

Thanks for the partsource tip I’ll check them out. I ordered a “hub shocker” off Amazon but if I can borrow the tool from PS that’s far better

Super tempting but probably overkill for my situation. Likely will only use it once in the next 5 years and no room to store it. I need a bigger place

Damn, I last used the service in June in Mississauga. I recall they had this program a long time ago and stopped providing it, which is why I was surprised when a friend told be about it this year.

I spoke to Partsource and they still loan tools but unfortunately didn’t have the slide hammer. Hopefully the hub buster I ordered does the trick

Is that the tool you bolt to your hub and go all Donkey Kong on with a sledge hammer?

I've been debating whether to get one to do my Subaru hubs. Please let me know how well it works.

You might want to double check. My local CTC refused my old tires. Their corporate site said they do, as did a call to head (?) office. Went back and they sheepishly accepted them.

That’s the one, it wasn’t my first choice but I will definitely let you know how it goes. I wouldn’t use it on a new vehicle but on my old Edge I’m willing to try it.

I called multiple locations in my area and received the same response. I ultimately emailed corporate office so will see what happens.

Very much appreciated GG. I don’t recall where you’re located but I probably will end up taking it into a shop as it seems to be very seized. I’ve been soaking it in penetrating oil as a last effort but my hopes are not high.

Near barrie. I'd rather use a hydraulic press than a slide hammer as the slide will put forces in all sorts of places I don't want it. Although with some heat in the hub a few hits of the hammer may be enough. Like I said, pickup/dropoff is probably more trouble than it's worth unless you are driving past anyway (IIRC slide hammer used to be available from CT/partsource rental which would be cheaper than gas to borrow mine).
