Hybrid Licence Restrictions

awdsome

Well-known member
I currently hold a GM1 licence

my friend told me on the weekend that with my hybrid licence, I am not allow to have any alcohol in my blood even if I am driving a car with a G licence, because the restrictions applies to my lowest (novice) M1 licence.

Is this true?

I believe that is incorrect. You can have alcohol if you're driving a car, but not if you're on a motorcycle with M1 restriction. I may very well be wrong, though.

You can find all the answers here:

P.S. ... a tiny bit off topic (or maybe not)
You can call me names or whatever you want, but Why The F would you want to drink and drive/ride anyway???
It does not matter what license you hold... just do yourself and others a big *** favor and DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE/RIDE
It can bite you really bad in the end.

I don't want to offend anyone, but I personally believe that drinking and diving is plain stupid.

i do not plan on drinking and riding
however, there are times when i will have a beer at a friends house and drive home a few hours later.
at that time, there might be say .01% alcohol in my blood level, or none at all. but i would like to know if i would be fine under the M1 restrictions, or if i would be fine under my G restrictions.

Under your "G" restrictions in a vehicle, you should be fine as you are allowed to have a drink and drive your vehicle. When on a motorcycle with your M1 or M2 even, there is a 0 tolerance for blood alcohol....I agree with kmalek above with not drinking and riding. Use your own discretion with this topic but be safe with whatever you do!

The connection between the G and M1 is that if you have any amount of blood alcohol when driving your motorcycle, both G & M1 will be suspended. Any violation of M1 restrictions on a motorcycle will affect your G licence as well, as is the case if you violate any of the restrictions on your G licence ie HTA 172 - your M1 goes bye-bye too. In addition, you are restricted to a 0 blood alcohol level on your G licence if you are under the age of 21.

You have one license, with one set of maximum points that you can accumulate (the lower, between the various endorsements on your license). You have different conditions placed on the use, of each type of vehicle.

Why The F would you want to drink and drive/ride anyway???
Because beer is tasty tasty goodness. And also the vegetarian content of my diet.

you are bound to the conditions of the class (per license) of the vehicle you are driving.

in your case, GM1

driving a car = g class restrictions, ignore the M1 restric
driving a bike = M1 restric. G means nothing.

This is a quote from the mto web site > http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/dandv/driver/gradu/

Hybrid Drivers

Drivers that hold a novice licence and full licence, e.g., G/M2.

The penalties for Escalating Sanctions are as follows:
• 30-day licence suspension for the first occurrence; both full and novice driver’s licence will be suspended.
• 90-day licence suspension for the second occurrence; both full and novice driver’s licence will be suspended.
• Novice Licence cancellation for the third occurrence. Upon a third occurrence, your novice driver’s licence will be cancelled. You must re-apply to the graduated licensing program by passing a vision and knowledge test and paying all licensing fees. After you pass these tests, you will enter Level One and get a Class G1 licence. You must serve all the Level One and Level Two waiting periods and start as a new driver. You will not receive any driving experience credit from your previous novice class. Your full driver’s licence class will not be cancelled and a new licence card will be issued with your full class.

Note: If you receive a conviction for an escalating sanction offence but now hold a full class G driver’s licence, you will be required to serve the following:
• 30-day licence suspension for the first occurrence;
• 90-day licence suspension for the second occurrence; and
• 90-day licence suspension for the third occurrence.

Where's Turbo when ya need him :D

who needs turbo? all the info is at the first link.

the one thing not mentioned above is points, with a hybrid licence you really have to watch the points because even though with your full G licence it requires 9 demerits to trigger an interview (and possible suspension) with a hybrid licence the threshold is lower (another reason not to wait to get your m)

lol.. I was just razzin turbo ...

Just kiddin Turbo...I guess it helps all those out there that can't or won't search for the info that's already readily available

I used to have G2M so I can only drink (drink beer w/ lunch) when on my motorcycle and no drinking when in my car. That lasted for a year :)

When I had my GM2, I would not drink the night before a morning ride, just in case I had trace amounts of alcohol. If I was driving the next day I would possibly have a Guinness, but only one.

Nothing like puking up into your demand valve while your under the water to remind you that drinking and diving is plain stupid.

I had the mis-pleasure of finding out that I'm back down to 0.000 bac, 2.5 hours after a bottle of canadian. That was a nerve wracking breathalyzer. The officer didn't seem like he was going to give me any breaks had I read anything above 0.
