how often do you change your face shield?

Just wanted to get an idea but then again I guess its discretionary. It's only my second season with the same helmet and shield but its a little smudge on certain lift angle but completely fine when fully closed. I got my helmet on a really good deal at Royal, the replacement shield (OEM) from eBay is like like 2/3 the price of what I paid for the helmet. Making it hard to justify the purchase, perhaps just getting another helmet from Royal makes more sense...haha.

My blue chrome visors (EXO-400) usually last about 2 years. I bought a bunch on sale for $15, now they're $90, and I paid $99 for the helmet.

Wow, my Shoei Iridium is done in its third season. Scrathes, scuffs, and a large chip mark right in the middle. They cost so much, may be I'm not taking care of mine.

Don't scratch and scuff it. They don't need to be replaced every year.

Ive had 3 visors for about 6 years now, only one of them is getting bad..but still easily usable.

Really? Do you think I scratched and scuffed it purposely? I only use warm water to clean it but that's it. I commute a lot which is a lot of highway riding so I've been hit in the shield with stone chips and such....not sure if I should be doing more to care for it but the $80 iridium shield I have is done.

I get about 3 - 4 years, typically. I clean mine after every ride with a soft cloth and cleaning solution. But, I don't get many stone chips in the face as I don't tend to ride in much traffic. Most of my impacts are bugs.

This is with a Shoei. My Shark was even more durable.

I'm the same experience, and I concur on the Shark visor.

We have video of you throwing rocks at your own visor. If anything should happen to us the video will be sent to the visor enforcement agency.

My Shark RSI is coming up on it's 6th season and both visors I have for it are in pretty good shape for the mileage. But, I'm very aware of how I place and carry and clean the helmet and visor. It's replacement time next spring, so my visors have lasted for the life time of the helmet.

MX goggles on the other hand, I go through 2 sets with 2 lenses each (tinted and clear) per season.

My Shoei Irdium visor has lasted 7 years, and still going. It is now starting to chip in some spots.

Are you not supposed to use a helmet for 5 years max, only?? Do we take that for visors as well??

Never heard of an expiry date or useful life on visors. With proper care and cleaning there's no reason why a visor can't last many years before becoming too scratched or damaged. My 5 year old dark tint visor is near perfect still. Some iridium/mirror visors will show scratches quicker because they coated with clear underneath.

Helmets have a polystyrene (foam) inner shell which breaks down from exposure to sweat, haircare products, heat, UV rays, heat, etc. Arai says 5 year useful life even with minimal use.

My 20 year old retired helmets have near mint visors.
Speaking of retired helmets. My friend just got a Shoei TR-Z helmet. He called shoei about getting some thicker pads for it to make it fit a little better/tighter, and they said "lucky you called when you did, that helmet expires in a few months and we won't be providing parts for it after that." wtf? Helmet, expires? It's only 3 years old!??!
