how not to start a race

So on saturday I get a text from my buddy in edmonton, setting some good laps on his motard but had got taken out in the first race. Sunday get the picture that is the image for the video and laughed pretty hard, thinking an appropriate caption is something like "ummm I do believe I was here first."

Well today I got the video and thought I'd share. OOPS! Don't think anyone got hurt, I know my buddy on the motard didn't.

Watched the video again and its hard to say he was "taken out". Looks like the other bike was just barely in his blind spot. Something to think about when moving to the inside line on corner 1.

I don't know if I would call the other guy an idiot. If it were the second lap It'd be different, but generally right off the start through corner 1 its good to hold your line, not drift down the track.

Yep. Looks like he lost the front or hit his brake lever off the motard.

three of em go down...looks like white bike hits the yellow bike hits the motard

Don't see anyone at fault here..... just a case of "**** happens" when people fight for the inside line.

Wouldn't you try to squeeze in for it? If not, you belong where you finished, likely complaining "I would've finished X BUT..."

My bike parts might be more expensive than yours, or vice versa... If it were me I would accept the offer to fix but I'm prepared to cover my own cost with parts if he/she doesn't.

There was no line, atleast it didn't look like it. You can't complain about where you finished if you don't finish. I had to back off in the first corner on my last race or have my front end taken out, so I passed back in corner two. You can't win the race in the first lap but you can loose it.

yup, most passes in racing are really a game of chicken.

Yep. My last video I posted shows my bike getting over $1000 in damages going through (well, I was exiting) the first corner. Thought I had a good fairly clean line on the outside and I got taken out by someone going all whiskey throttle and swapping out through the corner. Then I proceeded to get run over. I picked up the bike and finished the race with a head pipe that was so squished it was hard to believe the bike ran. That's just racing.

This past weekend I had a nice line set up in the first corner. I wasn't the first guy in, but I would routinely pass 3-5 guys and it had me set up for a nice clean line nobody else was using in the second corner. Way better than last weekend when I essentially lost the race before it really got going.

Racing is racing. You know what you're signing up for and damages to your bike are your responsibility. And with mx, sometimes we do a bit more than rubbing to get a pass done or simply to show buddy what's up.

I agree my last pass attempt on you I chickened out haha

lol. I heard you but didn't see you.

I may be one of the faster guys out there, but I'll be the first to admit I don't always have the most consistent lines. Especially if I know someone is on my ***.

I'm hoping to be on your *** next round :) we had pretty similar lap times in round 3, and I'm not any faster on the kaw then I was the sv. I so can't wait lol

looking forward to the challenge buddy!

You may not be able to "win" on the first lap... but if you can keep your **** together and put in a smokin lap and gain a gap at the front... well... the odds are in your favour.

I've actually had some success this season, due in part to great starts and getting away from that pack and letting them slow each other down for 4 or 5 laps. Then it's too late for most. To me the most important part is that first lap

Tough to say for sure from just that angle but it sure seems like the dive bomber was a little too agressive. Could/Should have just waited and passed a little later in the first lap. Getting a great start and smokin first lap is key.
