How much tire needed to pass safety?

I'm looking at heading to TMP for Thursday's evening laps, but afraid my Pilot Road 3s may not be up for inspection...

The centre is pretty low, in many places the middle tire grooves are worn to the bottom... No belt or overly crazy squaring though...

Will i have a problem passing tech? Is there tire service at TMP if these do fail?

Hoping to get this track day in before having to swap these off...

I would not bother attempting to try and pass tech with tires that have the tread worn off of them.

I would recommend changing the tire before you get to the track as trackdays are supoosed to be spent on the track and not messing around with tires if you don't have to.

We can probably squeeze you in on Wednesday at Speedworx so you can arrive at the track with brand new track biased rubber.
We have extended our Dragon Supercorsa Pro special so you can actually get an awesome tire for only $320 installed.

Give us a call at 416-915-4135 if you need us to sort your tires at our Speedworx shop before your trackday on Thursday.

Fawaz,

Your point makes sense and the promo sounds great. I will however pass this time as I'll be looking at replacing the current worn tires with a more sport touring option. Track is a very 'occasional' activity for me and having put in over 10K in street and touring riding this season already, I'm afraid I'll be swapping that race tire in 3 weeks.

Looks like I'll be sitting out this Thursday :(

Thanks again though!

maybe try and find some rear tires with low laps on the track, that would be your cheapest route, albeit, maybe not the safest lol

I have a couple of sets of Pirelli Diablo scrubs for sale very cheap. Each set has 35 laps.
Selling for $60 a set or $100 for both sets. Lots of tread and good for intermeiate trackday pace or street.

Hey Dee.....

Consider Bridgestones excellent 023 sport touring tire. Can't remember, (but I think its Haslams track racing school?) that uses 023s on all their track bikes (600s and 1000s).

From all the reviews I've seen, it seems to be the best tire to handle the track, along with long sport touring tire wear like you were used to with the PR3s.

I'm sorry, but if you cannot afford to have good tires on your bike for the track, you have no business being on the track. The sport is dangerous enough without you putting yourself and others you share the track with at risk with an unsafe bike!
