On a christmas gift for your boss?
Never did this before but this time around i have a boss thats actually a good guy and he hooked me up with a cushy job.

I was thinking of getting him a bottle of whiskey or cognac since i know he likes to drink, but have no idea what price range?

Don't wanna come off as cheap but at the same time i dont wanna make it seem like im trying to buy preferential treatment.

Any suggestions?

Go with a good bottle of Scotch, between $70 and $100. He's not a woman, so he'll just be happy it's a good bottle of scotch.
I suggest Laphroaig, because it's my favorite lol. I think it actually might be less than $70 too.

Any single malt will do, there's even a pretty reasonable one in the LCBO that comes in around $40 I think. It's an Islay single malt (might be called MacClennan I think). If he drinks wine get someone in the vintages section to show you a good french wine that will take a few years to mature (something like a good Bordeaux or a StEmillon) or get a bottle of Chateau Neuf du Pape that will set you back about $35.

If you don't work in sales, then just get him what you'd get a good guy. Are you asking what's a respectable scotch?

I bought my boss a bottle of 40 Creek ... it was on sale only 28 bucks at the LCBO

I always find alcohol to be a debatable gift for anyone in the workplace. So I always elect to go with something besides that.
Money is usually a secondary thought. I try to find something that would be memorable. It can be something very cheap, as long as it's memorable.

Is your boss into anything else besides drinking?
Sports?
Hobbies?
A joke you guys have shared?
Or a common interest?

I used to work for a very conservative company and booze gifts were no-no due to the chance of someone opening it in the wrong place and the potential resulting backlash. Also, if he gets a lot of booze gifts does yours get lost in the crowd?

Spending limit? Is the equivalent of an hours salary a guide or what you'd pay for a decent lunch?
