How much 1000 K break-in service cost ???

I know, I should have asked this question before but I just came back from Pickering Village(Hyosung dealer). They charged me $175(tax incl) for my 1000K service.

Honestly I feel like ripped off by this people and I already decided that this was my first and last business transaction with them.I called them yesterday to check the price and book an appointment, the guy after confirming with someone told me $159(tax incl) I am new to riding hence don't have a motorcycle jack so I asked them if they can put rim tape for me since I tried on one side but it didn't come well I even said it doesn't have to be perfect just give a shot.....but when I went to pick up the bike first I have to deal with non-sense of jacked up price and the guy told me they did not put the rim tape on......

I am so furious at myself right now for getting my bike serviced by this people....I paid $175 for an hour job and they do not have courtesy to at-least try to respect customer's request.........

What exactly did you get for the service beside oil and filter? My BMW was $135 for the 1k service and they went over everything on the bike from front to back plus a diagnostic computer hookup.

I'd say OP's price would be about right from what I've heard.

That BMW price is cheap! I won't even mention what I heard from a Harley dealer! lol
 
Whats all involved with the 1K service? I guess that would help decide if you were ripped off or not. I have always bought new, so never worried about the early services.

I was under the impression it's oil and filter change, Then check the torque of all the major nuts and bolts. Some bikes like my old Katana even called for a valve inspection at that time.

"change oil and filter, chain adjustment, chassis bolt check, check exterior lights, set tire pressure, visual brake inspection."

after reading some of the post I guess the $150+ price is norm if you get it done by a dealer...but I will still give them zero for customer service.

anyways can anyone help me out with the rim tape I already tried once and its very difficult to put it on without motorcycle jack....I live in Ajax.....i will ride to your place and I am sure it won't take more than few minutes of your time......
 
I refuse to pay $175 for an oil change etc. I just did it myself. Oil and filter were $27 and a half hour of my time.

Thats a rip in my opinion, though it may be the norm for dealers. Check lights? Thats a flip of the switch and a walk around, tire pressure? really? brake inspection? Chain adjustment? This is all stuff you can do yourself with little to no effort. Learn how to change your own oil, its incredibly simple and your pocket book will thank you. Sounds like dealers are making a killing with little to no actual work.
 
I went to Rosey Toes for my 1K service. Cost me $80 for oil and filter, chain adjustment, chain lube, and inspection of the bike.
A friend went to Kahuna and paid almost $200
 
I learnt my lesson hard way......the only reason I went there is because I still have a year left in my warranty and the pickering village is close by compare to Rosey Toes.....I will be doing my oil change next time.......
 
I do all of my own regular maintenance but was told from a reputable mechanic that the first service should be done at a dealership in order to have them check all of the specs and confirm that there are no outstanding recalls. I have no intention of spending that kind of money on a simple oil change and chain lube again.
 
Just did mine yesterday at Kahuna. Cost me $190.... $140 of that was just labour

Sometimes I think I chose the wrong career. Who would have thought you could get paid for looking at something and doing nothing (or almost nothing) to it.
