How many kilometres is too many kilometres?

I'm looking to get a 600cc sports bike. I was wondering how many km is too many km? I know the answer depends on alot of other variables... but whats the first number that pops up? Thank you.

Bike can be completely trashed in 1000 km, or it can run like new at 100,000 km. Too many variables. Modern bikes will do it (with proper treatment and maintenance, and suitable replacement of normal wear parts), question is whether the rider will.

Ask for the maintenance records. If it's over 20,000km's has it had it's second valve check yet? If not shave a few hundred $$ off the price to cover that. How does the brake fluid look, super dark? Check the condition of the chain, sprockets, etc. You'll know the difference between a guy who takes good care of it, and someone who doesn't.

If you're unsure have a friend who knows about bikes go look at it with you.

What bike you shopping for?

Maint records have nothing to do with it.
My bike hasn't seen a dealer in 70k and is in better condition then the day I picked her up off the showroom floor.
Lots of service records to me indicate someone that has no clue how to look after his/her bike or a lemon.

Records could be just a sheet of paper where you write down the maintenance. That's what I do. eg. at 50,000 changed oil and filter, at 65,000 changed battery, etc.

70k-80k?
I just sold a bike with 60k on it. It ran mint.

Then bought a bike with 12k on it. Tires were original from when it was brand new 5 years ago (bad), brake fluid was original (bad), battery crapped out (probably original) etc

Thanks for the reply guys, so what I'm getting from the feedback is to bring a person that knows about bikes and have him check it, got it thank! And to Jamie, I'm shopping for a 06+ R6 or GSXR.
