How many close calls have you had

Ok, I've been riding for four months now, and the first month was on (givin the fact that I was still nervous to ride on main streets and highways) but since then, I've been almost hit or killed by stupid cagers at least once a week. Sometimes twice in one day. I want to know is it just me, are cagers out to get me, or has anyone else have many close calls with cars.

With time you should be able to start predicting some of these, expecting people to drive properly is a dangerous attitude.

It's you and your lack of experience. You have to start to anticipate things a bit better, look further ahead, scan your surroundings and most close calls will be eliminated.

...are cagers out to get me...

Of course "cagers" are not out to get you. I'm a cager and I certainly don't consider myself "stupid". And, because I also ride a motorcycle, I believe it's made me more aware of the presence of motorcycles on the road.

'The Road Warrior' said it best, imho.

Ride safe, and within your skill level.

Yes, with experience you get good at seeing things way before they become a problem. I unconsciously expect all left turners to pull out at the wrong time, I watch to make sure people see me. I'm careful around city streets where you are most likely to eat asphalt. I have not had a close call with a cage in a very long time.

This is a very important thing to do in my opinion, if you ride and want to increase your safety. If you look at the drivers head, you can predict many things he/she might intend to do. You can see their eyes in the mirror, you can see slight head movement when they are thinking about changing lanes or making turns etc etc. Last but not least if you see the driver looking at you, then chances are he is not going to kill you because he is aware of your presence.

These things not only make you a safer rider, but an above average driver as well. IMO

+999999999 Thats so true, i drive the car way better than when i wasn't riding street. Some say everyone should have experience on a motorcycle before they can get a car liscense but that is almost a scary thought with some people....it would make them more aware though

what he said.

And you absolutely cannot assume that other drivers around you know what they are doing ie. know how to drive properly. You just don't have that "luxury" on a bike in traffic.

So far this limited season (don't want to get into it), I've been almost T-boned once (anticipated that one and was ready for it, if not, I would have been street pizza) and almost rear-ended twice coming to stop lights (squealing brakes from vehicles behind, worst ended up on a 45 degree angle behind me, front bumper 2 feet off my right knee, driver's door within 1 foot of my rear end, and myself in the process of jumping off my bike and catching it at the last second before hitting the ground (couldn't move forward due to traffic turning left directly in front of me)).

As others have said, pay close attention AT ALL TIMES, assume you are invisible and smell what like a raw t-bone steak would to a pack of wolves.
Out to get you in the worst way possible.

Once you've gotten a sense of this you'll be fine.

:lmao:They are all out to get you, but with more experience you will be able to predict and avoid them.
Alot of good saftey tips are covered in motorcycle hand book, but
Try to position yoursefl that other drivers are aware your are there.
Leave yourself enough room to stop or avoid other cars.

eventually, you will get so good at predicting or preparing for other drivers to do the worst that avoiding incidents will become second nature.

I too find myself much more mindfull of motorcycles when I'm driving my car because I ride and know the dangers we face as riders from drivers who dont see us.

I'm surprised you haven't had more close calls driving around unconscious and all - sorry couldn't resist :D
