How long are the lineups at the testing centers? Is it too late in the season?

To get a M1, you need both a written and visual test.

Are there 2 lineups then? i.e. it will take hours to do this and should take a day off of work?

Also, seeing as it is september, is it too late to get a m2? (the m1 expires in 90 days I think)

Lineups vary by location, but to be safe budget plenty of time.
Technically if you take an M1 Exit course you can do it as soon as you have your M1 then take the paper work
with you to the licensing centre at the end of the 60 day waiting period and get your M2.

1. Go for M1 on Saturday.

2. Sign up for a rider course next weekend. Pass it.

3. Go to DMV after 60 days and submit the passing certificate and get your M2.

I did mine last September and it took about 2.5 hours from getting there to walking out with my M1 paper in hand. Did the course the weekend after and then took the paper to the ministry in November to get my M2.

If you can, show up just before they open. I went to the Downsview location. Most everyone is there for a driving test, so I went straight to the front of the written test line.

They do an eye test when they fill out all the paper work. After that you get your test and enter a separate supervised room to write it.

If I remember correctly, I arrived around 8, opened at 8:30, was writing my test by 9, and leaving by 9:30.

At the Aurora location I went to in late July, I got there at 8:40, did the tests, and was out of there at about 11am. Most people in line were 16-17 year olds so now that school's back in I'd think you would be able to get in and out in decent time. The written M1 test takes a little longer than the G1 test as you've got to do the G1 driving and sign test as well as the motorcycle test.
I don't think the hours are very work friendly however - 8:30 to 5, M-F only.

This works great, I did that one day before work.

Same. I usually don't start until 10 anyway (and it's not a huge issue if I have to be in later) but I still made it for my normal time.

I wrote my M1 test in burlington this year...August 15th...I showed up at 10:30 am.
I was out of there by 11:15 am.

soo...
15 minute wait
10 minute window time
25 minutes to write test, pass, get M1 printed and leave.

Doing the Safety course this weekend at humber.
Have to wait until October 15th to get my M1 upgraded to my M2.

They won't let you write the M1 test if you say you are NOT doing a safety course.
The last day the Ministry does the M1 exit test is October 15th...and with the Ministry, you HAVE to wait 60 days between writing your M1 to taking your M1 exit.

So the only way to get your M2 is to take a safety course...which usually is offered until the end of October.

I did my M1 a few weeks ago. I went as soon as they opened, waited about 5-10 mins in line, took my vision test (<5 minutes) and then wrote the test in about 15 minutes and was done with it.

Getting the registration and plates, however, took a ridiculous amount of time. I went to the Service Ontario at Bay and College and waited 3+ hours in line on a Friday afternoon. The actual process took only 10 minutes.

I'm taking the RTI course next weekend and as far as I know, there are plenty of spots available. They offer the course well into November, so plenty of time to get everything done.

Went into Downsville during my lunch.. took a bit longer than expected but overall, pretty quick--about 1.5 hours.

Most of the time spent waiting in the supervised room (15mins) to first receive my written test package, and another 20 minutes for them to mark and call my name up.

Lots of people going for their driving test I presume... I parked in the far corner of the parking lot, and I'd advise you to do the same.:)
