How far for a grand

As the title states; wondering how far a newly divorced dude (hey, I kept my bike!) can get for a budget tour of 1000 bucks. Riding a KLR, prefer East but open to suggestions. It looks like I can get a two week window, starting Aug 12. Any ideas? I'd like to keep the aforementioned budget to include fuel, accommodations, etc. Not against camping at all

I sleep beside the bike, so for each day I figure $0 for accommodation, $30-50 for food (if I'm out east I want lobster at least once), and whatever for fuel (varies depending on your bike and distance covered each day, I am normally $75-150/day in fuel).

This is a pretty bare bones trip and doesn't account for the maintenance that will be required upon your return (or potentially during the trip) (i.e. oil changes during the trip or after ~1-2 weeks I will need tires). Typically I am doing 1000-2000 km/day. I travel with a spare oil filter so it's easy to do an oil change in a store parking lot.

Based on my numbers, a week is no problem if you are camping (probably longer if your daily distances are lower). Hotels will shorten your trip considerably.

Personally I like going east through the US and spending time in mainland nova scotia. Cabot trail is worth doing, but the elevation changes can give you problems with fog and temperature swings, IMHO the roads on the mainland are just as good (without the spectacular scenery). I would skip PEI (sandy boring roads), NB is ok but I didn't find anything special.

KLR650 at 100 kph which is a nice touring speed should be under $50 for 700 km especially in the US.
I think you can squeak 2 weeks if you load up with stuff like energy bars and drink crystals at the get go and top off at supermarkets.

I'd go straight south into PA and then take the back roads across east and up towards East Coast Canada a re-evaluate from there.

Ride until you've spent $500 or 1 week. Which ever comes first. Turn around.

lol, that was actually part of my plan

Well....$450 anyway and keep $100 in reserve for that flat.

Not to rain on your escape run but you don't want to be travelling in the US without health insurance and CAA Plus

9 days trip- made it to Newfoundland and back on $1500 or less, my 2-up flew to halifax and budget included her airfare and the ferry ride. Camped most of the time, cooked dinner and breakfast. Was travelling with another couple so that have shaved off the camp fee.
