How do we stop Ontario pension plan (opp)

This thing is a bad idea for employers and employees.

Employees needs to save money for university and college. They can't have a chunk of it going to the government to get back 50 years later. It's stupid they can't get osap and now they have even less money to pay for school.

My labor just went up 3.5% because of $11 while other costs have not adjusted. We can't keep taking hits like these.

We already pay EI, CPP, WSIB, but if our business tanks we can't get any help from government. If I get injured I don't get wsib.

Small Business and low wage/skilled employees can't afford to pay more. They are the back bone of the economy.

You can opt in for WSIB coverage as a business owner, but of course, depending on your industry and salary, the actual premium could cost you upwards of $500 or more per month. And good luck collecting if you get injured

Liberal majority. You better start figuring out how to extract more money from your customers dude.

I remember something about it being offset by reductions in premiums for the Employment Insurance program so the actual deductions from your pay remains very close to the same. Personally I would rather have my money go into a OPP instead of EI. At least with the OPP there is a chance I will see the money again. EI it is just gone never to been seen again.

You can stop OPP by getting people to save up for their own retirement. By and large, people aren't doing so now, which is why OPP is necessary.

How are they supposed to save when they can't even pay day to day bills. High insurance, cost of living, hydro, rents etc... Most of my employees are students and are asking for more hours because they can't afford to pay their bills.

Ya I know, we're all on the verge of homelessness and starvation. Just imagine how much worse we'll be when we have to retire!

Don't worry, mommy Wynne will take care of you.

I lived downtown on $8/hr. Paid for most of my schooling, rent, ect ect.

The opp is just another cost for small business. A 3.5% increase in pennys compared to the hit some companies are taking. Hell ive taken a 50% DECREASE in the last few years with my own business.

I feel for you OP. We are screwed and frankly there is nothing we can do about it. Except become illigetimet company. How is that going to help the economy.

Be prepared everyone. The small business owners have been on a bed, legs in air, ass cheaks open wide for years. EVERYONE is going to feel this hit.

(I have taken a 50% decrease in pay while my materials have gone up 300% in the last 2. The average homeowner cant afford to replace a pane of glass while I attempt to cover my other costs lile wsib that wont give me **** anyways)

I can't get out of WSIB. The franchise I'm in requires us to have WSIB. It's not as bad as some of the others. We pay 1.78%. I don't mind it as much but I heard from people how badly run it is and how they use bully tactics.

That 3.5% matters my friend. But I agree with you. Cost of goods generally have been going up at a rate that doesn't make sense. When I compare our COGS increase to other provinces it's quite less for others. Hell vancouver pays less for same COGS than we do here. We're paying the same prices as Saskatchewan and Alberta.

Oh I'm sorry. I wasnt directing that 3.5% comment at you. As a business owner I know the pain to even 1%.
To the general employee of a company it doesn't sound like alot. But it is.

As for wsib I wish it was 1.78% for me. But no... its 10.25% and I cant opt out. Nor can I receive any money if I get injured. Soooo its a mute point in me paying it. But hey its law. -_-

What industry are you In?

I never understood the point of WSIB.

Yeah, people don't understand sometimes when things are slow you pay your employees even though you are losing money.

Increase your rates like everyone else.

Just noticed the other day that things went up about 15% at timmies, right after the minimum wage was raised again.

Dont be a sucker and keep up with inflation

We raised prices 9% on certain items. Another increase coming soon. That's what people don't understand. Doing these things in an un-controlled manner will do this. I really don't like raising prices because I know how tough it is out there.

I thought timmies only raised prices on donuts and stuff that isn't as high volume. I was told they weren't touching coffee prices.

There becomes a point where people can no longer pay for these increases. Businesses take hits thats the way life works.

Consider this. If I increased my prices with the rate of my increases due to taxes/fees/insurance/and the general cost of business. What 4 years ago you would have paid 200 for would now be much closer to 800.

Now im decently sure your wage hasn't increased by 400% so its not as easy as it sounds. It's about a balance of what people are willing to pay and what you need to make.

I dunno about coffee, dont drink it. I usually grab juice and bagel and noticed it went up by about 15%.

You don;t like raising prices but you have no choice, otherwise you'll be working for free.

A lot of people get burned this way, i know guys who've been working for 5+years at a company and make the exact same amount of money today as they did then. In reality they're making a significant amount less, and this is the wonderful world of how inflation ****s people over.

Then you have some serious decisions to make.

Cut on the materials, insurance, your income or raise the price. Your call.
