How did the Hot Lap TV show do this weekend?

I dont know how they think they did or what good footage they got. What I do know is that their filming made zero impact on a normal track day. Besides their RC helicpoter hovering around the track.

I don't know about "zero" impact.
We got held up a few minutes between a few sessions while the crew van ferried a camera crew on and off the track. The film crew themselves were not intrusive at all. They were out there over different sessions at different corners but I hardly noticed them.

The Hot Laps riders were responsible for two of the crashes on Sunday. Not that they were anything special, there were a lot of incidents on Sunday. I think that Volkswagen made more laps than I did. There was not a single incident Monday, but then, the Hot Laps guys had only one bike running on Monday.

I was surprised at how unprepared the Hot Laps team was for track days. Besides the crashes and the bad gas. Their bikes just weren't prepared as track bikes; license plate, taped lights, 10 year old bike that had never had fork service, none had ever had basic suspension set-up done. By the end of the weekend Johns Sherrard & Bickle had moved them a quantum leap forward.

5 people showed up to compete in Hot Laps, 5 more were drawn at random from people at the track wishing to try.

I left before the final timing session, so I don't know how it worked out in the end. (there was a significant delay for an incident Tuesday morning, only one morning session for Yellow & Green)

I only rode the Monday and Tuesday so ca't comment on Saturday and Sunday. Perhaps I should have qualified my original post. The incident on Tuesday morning was nothing to do with the Hot Lap riders.

Ottawa area rider Tim Robinson won on a S1000RR with a time of 2.06.somehting. He'll be going to Cali to compete for the finale.

"win" is a strong word. There wasn't anything on offer to "win"

If there's one element of this Tv show that needs sorting it's this ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^.

For a TV premier I thought they did a remarkable job 'pulling' it all together. They were friendly and approachable; all the while they worked hard getting footage.

The 'impact' and level of 'distraction' was minor at best! The HotLaps riders were involved in incidents on Sunday; this is a possibility of any track day! They in no way held up any of my sessions. Full day of riding on all the days I was there: Sat. - Mon.

I would ride again in any event they were involved with.

Hoping that the preimere gets pickup soon! Best of luck to Andy and the team.

Thanks for the kind words all! Similarly, the comments are appreciated as how the event affected those not involved is very important.

Hope everyone had a great weekend, just as we did. Cheers.

I wasn't there at Calabogie but isn't the prize for the "win" a trip to California to compete in the finals and have a chance at winning a bike? Please elaborate on your comments. thanks.

I stand corrected. You are right. I totally misunderstood what was actually on offer.

As for my comment about this part of the show needing sorting (and I have no idea how they'd do it) I just think the challenge element needs handicapping in some way. And this isn't a slight on Tim or any other rider who wins the challenge part. Its my personal view.

OK thanks Fiery. According to their info the fastest time is not the only determing factor. They say they equal it out somehow so that the litre bikes and 600's are on the same level. I dunno, just looking at it from a distance.
