Soo today i took out my air filter in my 2011 gsxr for the first time, the bike only has 17000 km's on it and this is how the air filter looks like , i didnt think it would look this bad after 17k , what are your thoughts

At the beginning of every season, buy and install a new air filter.

or buy a K&N and clean it and reinstall at the beginning of every season.

Yes that is normal for a 17k filter.

By the way, at 20k you have to get fresh oil and dust seals on your front forks, you should also check valve clearance but being a GSXR you can probably wait until 30k.

Find your maintenance manual and follow the recommended schedule.

I think i prefer oem filter and id rather put it on every season. I dont want to screw up air/fuel ratio on the bike and i am not planning on tuning the bike, i think oem is just fine for me.
Should i get deeper into it and throw in a set of spark plugs as well ?
Today i felt the bike was running like sh*t, but i think 90% humidity was the cause of that, it felt like she was choking so thats why i pulled that air filter out.

Really it felt like it was CHOKING? After seeing that filter you still figured it was the humidity? LOL that thing is probably flowing about 50% of what it did when it was new. I'd be genuinely surprised if your bike put down more than 70-80 horsepower with that thing. Seriously.

Maintain your bike dude. RTFM and then do what it says in it.

Well i guess all the 600's out there are 70-80 hp because i have no problems keeping up with any of them. My friends gsxr with full exhaust and tune pushing 107 to the wheel and i have no problem keeping up with him. No point to diss, I have the manual and read it but lets be realistic some of the maintenance is ridiculous , valve check at 10k km's i bet less than half of the people actually do it at that time
My brother got a valve check done on his 2004 cbr600rr at 26000 kms and everyrhing was within spec.
And if it was the air filter and not humidity how come the bike ran just fine on saturday ?
Im not trying to argue just stating the facts

30, 000 km in one season for me last year on a new gsxr 6. This spring was air filter, new plugs and a valve service. For the cost I know I don't need to worry about it so it's justified to me. Forks are getting redone shortly too

Did the air filter look as bad as mine ?

Aren't you supposed to replace that filter earlier?
That's disgusting

Mine says inspect the forks and shock every 12. The manuals pretty much say "replace if leaking or damaged looking" lol

I'm always surprised at how shocked people are that they need to perform regular maintenance on a vehicle...
Is some of it overkill? Yes, but I'd rather have piece of mind that it was inspected and was fine.

That's pretty normal after 17k. If you tour a lot like I used to - it gets bad quickly.

Most people can't belive the filters are as bad....

Wanna feel a little better about your filter ? Cut it open and spread it out - you'll probably find that 3/4's of it's surface, still looks clean.

Are you trolling me?
It isn't the humidity, it is your dirty *** filter lol

Everything is within spec until everything is not! then expensive repairs happen. Like I said for your GSXR I wouldn't do them every 10k but that is a far cry from having a filter go for 17k. I assume you probably ride as soon as the weather gets a little warm, imagine all that salt dust going into your filter etc.

We are trying to help you out, no need to get pissy :)
