House window replacement

Keep away from those home improvement phone solicitors. A friend of mine recently decided to invite them over for a free quote as he is in the market for widows as well. $38g's! Told him 'no thanks ' and suddenly the price dropped $5g. Salesman was very pushy and insisted on having the contract signed that day. Dropped the price another couple grand, buddy told him to ****off and get off his property.

Do your research and get a few quotes there's some decent installers out there.

We did a lot of searching and went with Centennial Windows. They make and install their own and don't hire a handyman that buys at Home Depot.

We ordered thru CGI and installed ourselves (21 windows 2 entries and a set of french) when we replaced the house stuff.

Last fall for the garage we used Home Depot for garage doors and windows, we installed the entry door ourselves. Also a seamless experience. We're also able to match them up to the house.

I'd use the Depot again, and they were a bit cheaper than CGI

Dad is a contractor so we just do ourselves. Getting the material takes some time depending on windows sizes.

Careful with the shady guys, price can swing wildly.

had Brian and Dave Anderson replace all the windows (casements on the main floor and sliders in the basement) in my house over the last 3 years including 2 screen doors and a patio door

http://www.torontowindowsanddoors.ca/

they install North Star products http://www.northstarwindows.com/

couldn't be more happy with the quality, operation, ease-of-cleaning etc. of the windows versus the house's 1957 originals...and it was way less $$$ than I had anticipated so kinda kicking myself that I didn't do it many years ago

Brian and Dave are a real good-natured sort....easy going, zero pressure......and they arrive 10 minutes earlier than they say they will on the exact day you schedule....work very clean....when they were done you wouldn't even know they were there.....they replaced my bathroom window so cleanly I didn't even need interior paint

got their reco from the company who did my kitchen reno.....decided we should replace the kitchen and front hall windows during the reno....so they had to work within an exact schedule to avoid other contractors....and they delivered as promised

same deal with my basement windows....had them scheduled for an exact day and time to avoid other contractors because two of the windows are under my deck (old deck was removed, then had the foundation dug up and waterproofed, then they installed the basement windows just before the new deck build started)....and again they delivered as promised

I've had tons of reno work done on my house over the last 3 years involving countless trades and these guys were by far the most reliable

Thanks. I'll contact them all for quotes. Might also consider doing it myself....if I have the inclination.

I'm thinking Trimbo might be on the more expensive side maybe?

What about argon filled instead of non, is it worth it for argon...does it really make that much difference for the added cost?

I just replaced one window in my dinning room. I used Lifestyle Windows. They make their own windows. I got the Double Slider Tilt Window. It took a while but the window is nice.

He works for them and he works for himself, will do side jobs, but he will use their products
