Eh, I used to supercharge smallblocks with no intercooler (or aftercooler) and push 8-9 PSI, good for around 500hp at the wheels in that application with supporting mods (exhaust, etc.)
 
H2 doesn't have an intercooler, either, and the boost pressure (at higher revs) is up there. The advantage of driving it electrically is that the supercharger's boost pressure (and parasitic drag) aren't locked to engine revs. That electric motor would have to be pretty strong, though.

Interesting to see how this works out, because the H2 is good at passing everything except a petrol station ...

My old 6.5 Turbo diesel chevy wasn't intercooled either and pushed 10PSI from the factory and it was a common mod to remove the vacuum wastegate and set it up for 15PSI on stock head bolts, and lots of us with studded engines were pushing 20 all day long.

This was courtesy of my old 1997 after I rebuilt the engine, at 20PSI....stock turbo, zero intercooling. Could have kept them spinning, but tires are expensive and the engine was still breaking in.

Diesel is a far different game. The issue on gas is pre-ignition exasperated by high intake air temps. That is a non-issue for diesel.

Yep, and due to not having an intercooler, the intake air temps of a H2 are definitely high. As noted this makes it susceptible to pre-ignition, and gets around this problem by running a very low compression ratio in modern times (8.5:1). Back in the day before advanced tuning control existed, this was common to run low compression when boosted but times have changed and much higher compression ratios can be forced induction safely without pre ignition risk with cooled charge air.

Sorry; I pretty much hate myself for doing this, but the word is "exacerbated". If the gas is exasperated by high intake pressures it's intensely irritated by it.

As I said, I've annoyed myself by doing this but it's a word swap that drives me crazy as I hear it on the news from time to time.

In my head, I said exacerbated. Not sure if my fingers typed the wrong thing or if it was a typo and auto correct bit me.

I find malaprops hilarious, especially when used unintentionally. I was at a birthday party and everyone was getting drunk. One of them tried to say she was inebriated, but couldn't get the word out and kept stuttering "ineb... ineb... ineb". I was trying to help her complete the word, but my subconscious must have been stuck on what she was literally saying, and I blurted out "abbreviated?". Apparently she wasn't drunk enough to forget, so now it's a running joke at my expense.
