Honda vs Yamaha Reliability?

They're all the same. Unless you own one, then it's the best ever and everything else is crap.

Both generally very good. Both have had specific models with specific issues and problem areas over the years, just like everyone else has (nothing is perfect). It would help to know specifically which models you are looking for.

For the most part, how you ride and maintain the bike will have more to do with its longevity than which brand it is.

I place Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki and Yamaha all at the same level when it comes to reliability. Maintain any of them properly and you should be good to go. Understanding any bikes problem areas or weak points can also go a long way in keeping things in order and running.

No way Ombre...yamaha rulesss.lol- Joke a side.. Brian P is right both manufacture are good either way you go it is a preference.

I've had them all.

Kawi and Honda were most reliable. Suzuki's both had electrical problems but my favorite bikes to ride. Yamaha has been a pain in the *** so far but a lot of the issues were due to the previous owner's mistakes.

New vs New they will be the same.

Don't listen to them. Get the Honda. Yamaha just doesn't compare. You'll never be sorry.

blablabla..typical honda rider..prob honda it is your first bike right? And you don't know any better..ahaha

Google the [Year] [Model] problems and you'll see that they all have their share of issues.

Example:

2008 CBR1000RR problems

You'll find out some of them go through 1L of oil ever 3,000km lol

I like Honda. Hope my '84 V65 Magna is still going, I might have to get it back to make sure.

Never owned a Yamaha. My current Suzuki failed to dealer/shop problems.

Through the years, Honda has historically developed a reputation as the best quality and reliability in motorcycles. Many people say that started to disappear in new Honda models starting around 10 years ago, that Honda lost this edge, and most Japanese bikes are now fairly equal. I always considered Yamaha #2, Suzuki #3, and Kawasaki #4 (it also coincides with the size of the [bike-making] company). Though they all tend to be quite reliable bikes. I've owned Suzuki from new and was extremely happy with it, for example.

Thank you all for your insights (some hilarious). I figured as much based on comments but was fishing for anything glaring based on where they were being manufactured etc. If I can find one, I suppose Ural is the way to go. :p

Thanks guys!

I got a brand new 2011 Yamaha R6. It runs perfect and has absolutely zero problems to this day. Literally not one.
I would trust Honda the same.

Buddy bought a 2013 Kawi 636. It just broke down on him and is in the shop. Couldn't figure out what it was... just sayin'. :)

I've had 2 suzukis pass 70k. Nothing but good things to say about them. My first one had a minor electrical problem. A short in one of the sockets. My present one is problem free this far. Best all round bike, best value.

I have owned all the major brands and each MODEL (not brand) has its own problems... get whatever you want if you are getting one of the japanese brands you can't really go wrong. Just remember to refill the blinker fluid from time to time.
