Honda ST 1100 Feedback

Looking to move up from a 750 shadow to an ST 1100, for more power when I'm riding 2-up. Found a few I'm going to look at. Wanted to ask if there's any ST riders who have any advice or other considerations about this model. Oddly enough, the insurance on it will actually be lower than my 750.

Thanks to those who take the time to read and respond.

I've owned a '97 ST1100 for about 6 years now. Mine had 70k on it when I bought it and now has just over 150k. Great bike, smooth, powerful and quiet. Lots of storage, good wind protection that allows riding in cooler weather and maintenance is basically regular oil changes and tires every year or so. Very few concerns with these bikes, engine is pretty much bullet-proof and the shaft drive is no muss no fuss.

For more info on both the ST11 and ST13 you should visit ST-Owners.com. There are many Ontario ST owners on that forum and it is not uncommon for 15 to 20 of us to meet for a ride to some distant lunch spot. A few weeks ago we took a run up to a diner in Meaford.

Thanks. I will check it out. And thanks for the feedback!

Think it's a good bike for your description - I bought it for the reasons the other rider mentioned - even my 93 is smooth and quiet and ages well.

Looking forward to some touring on it this year in Aus.

Motor IS bulletproof. Good storage - about the same as my Burgman. 110 litres with stock stuff.
The weight is down low due to the gas tank under the seat.

Cop rider who is friend said they generally preferred the ST1100 to the 1300s they got later.

The seat height is low BUT it's wide so if you are height challenged it can be a bear at low speed in the city. I'm a 30" inseam and with my riding boots on it's just "okay".

Once moving tho it's a gun platform.....solid as a rock at speed tho not quite as nimble on tighter twists as I like. Run all day at 130+ and big tank is useful and are small front storage pockets ( don't put electronics in there tho - gets hot.

I ( and others ) put risers on fro a bit more upright position and the touring windscreen - while awkward looking really takes all the wind pressure away on shoulders.

As mentioned hit the ST owners forums.

I have a stone protector on my headlight as they tend to get scarred and shipped over time with the flat surface. Good mirrors....if you fit the bike it's a great longer term set of wheels....amazing motor.
