Honda Shadow Spirit sprocket install on Harley rim for rear conversion

About to do a wide tire rear conversion on an 03 Shadow Spirit 750. I have the rim/tire (18x6 Harley rim running 200/50/18 Metz tire), 11.5" matching rotor, secondary master cyclinder and rear caliper (replacing from drum to disc), still need to figure out axle and sprocket spacers) amongst other required adaptations.

My question is what is the best approach to fit my existing stock sprocket on the Harley rim (will likely change to smaller tooth and chain later but that's another mod). I'm thinking my options can be one of the following four:

1. Have a sprocket interface plate fabricated up which would bolt onto my stock sprocket and drill holes into this plate to match the Harley rim bolt pattern
2. Redrill new holes in stock sprocket to match Harley bolt pattern (not sure if this is even possible)
3. Find a Harley sprocket with pitch/teeth to accomodate my year and model bike
4. Buy a new sprocket together and drill holes to match Harley bolt pattern

Need to mention, I don't have the bike just yet (picking it up next weekend) so the above are ideas that came to mind.

Lastly, I'm thinking of tackling most of this solo and will likely go to the pros for final spacing, centering, safety once over, etc. Anyone know of a good shop in or around the Hamilton area that does custom stuff like this?

Thanks.

If you can find a sprocket for that wheel - go that route. It would be the easiest route and safe route.

+1 just figure out what chain your bike uses, and get a rear sprocket for that size chain matching to the rear wheel.

If you have access to machine tools, a lathe and/or a mill, making the sprocket fit is fairly straight forward. If you don't have access to machine tools you're probably not going to get it done.

Right off the top; the Shadow carries a 525 chain, and a Harley uses at least a 530... that means the centerline of the sprocket is off. You cannot use the Shadow sprocket on the Harley wheel because the center hole is too large.

The FIRST thing to do is get the wheel on and centered. Then sort out the bearings and the spacers.
At this point you can sort out chain alignment (Tip #1: Dimension to the back of the sprocket, not centerline). This is where the lathe/mill comes in, you'll have to narrow the hub or make spacers to make it wider.
Then sort the brake (At this point you have to make a new spacer for the right side 'cuz you forgot to take the caliper bracket into consideration when you first made that single spacer in step 1.)

Now you need a sprocket. (Tip#2: The online JT Sprocket catalogue has drawings that are easily imported into your CAD program. Sad part is the biggest Harley in the catalogue is a Sportster) (Tip#3: It is easier to order custom sprockets).
(Tip#4: It would be A LOT easier to put a wider rim on the Honda hub. A LOT EASIER).

We won't mention captured spacers or quick change, that would just confuse matters.

Done plenty of alignments, retrofits, etc. Have a machine shop in my yard in Hamilton. Send me a msge if your interested.

Thanks all for your information and helpful tips ... Will keep these in mind for the conversion. Cheers!
