What a poor attempt at a what used to be a good weekend for race fans. No food tents, just coffee trucks, piss poor advertising, half of the previous grand stands were no were to be found. As you can read I am VERY DISAPPOINTED to say the least at hondas attempt to put on a show. Honorable mention goes to the personal at the honda bike display, they were pretty sharp and knew their product. Good thing I got in for free and got a bag of candy or I really would have been ******.

You lost me at "no food tents".

You lost me at "no food tents".

This was my third year in a row that I have attended. They have never had a "food tent" in these years. However, there is a good variety of food trucks. Not sure what more you could want (other than a covered area to get out from under the rain or sun). We had awesome fish tacos. Lots of craft beers etc to be found.

I do think that their in-event communication could be better. We sat around quite awhile last year when it was raining cats and dogs and there was no official announcement on the Saturday that Race #1 had been cancelled. It was only through talking to other attendees that we figured out that they had cancelled the race. They also shut down the TV feed at the end of this Saturday during the final race which was a stockcar sort of series.

I do agree that the Honda reps there were well informed. I enjoyed chatting up a rep about the CBR650 and CB500F.

What the series does do well is that the drivers are generally accessible (with a paddock and/or pit pass). Last year I met Rob Ford, Paul Tracy and chatted up with the President who runs the event. You do not get that sort of access and intimacy at a Leafs game that is for sure.

Could the event be improved? Sure... Is it a failure or a joke? Nope... Not in my book. I will be back next year again...

Edit: I do find it interesting and slightly iconic that the Honda entries in this series are totally un-competitive this year. The Chevy cars were obviously faster and better sorted and that seems to have been the trend all season. Honda does a good job advertising its racing heritage and on the showroom floor and in general public perception GM sucks and Honda is better. In this series though Chevy rules (at least this season anyways). Oh... And Will Power is something else. Very smooth transitions and rarely makes a mistake. Not sure if he will ever get a F1 ticket but he sure is a good Indy driver.

Food trucks? Interest peaked again!
I will probably go check out the Indy one of these years.

It's dying down for sure. I go almost every year. It's my ritual in the summer

Tons of food trucks. Ribs, multiple taco trucks, craft beers.

I think for the money it is a decent value.

The truck races are a hoot. The Indy Lights is also awesome.

I want to take my wife to a Toronto FC game. Is it a worthwhile event? I go to at least a couple OHL games every year (usually at least one in Guelph and Kitchener and now will add Hamilton to the mix now that the Bulls are moving there) as well as an AHL game or two. In the summer I try to hit a couple of Ticats games and maybe a Jays game.

Is it worthwhile to add the Toronto FC into the mix?

I go to one or two every year. Not a big sports fan, but I enjoy the experience with my kids. The local Pizza Pizza has a yearly promo: 2 med pizzas, 2 toppings, 3 pops & 2 TFC tickets for $24.99. That helps to not make it too expensive an outing. Bring a jacket if you're in the cheap seats, though. There's a brisk wind even on the hotter days.

I started going to the indy from day 1. Stopped going the second year honda and andretti took over, its been going down hill since .Back in the good day's the place was packed, entertainment, food ,beer tents etc, now the place is empty, track surface is crap, sponsorship is limited and just overall just going down hill. I bace my opi.ion on what I have experienced over the yrs that I attended, worked and volunteered at the event, you don't have to agree .

The whole series has been in the toilets since the Tony George fiasco, add that to the fact that Hinchcliffe is not racing and what you see is what you get.

TFC is great. I'm a season ticket holder this year after hitting a couple games last year.

I totally agree with you on that, last I was there was 2007, and I attended since 1992. them days are gone.

3 things killed the toronto race:

1. Molson stopped being the promoter and primary sponsor. they did a ton of advertising and promotion. i think the peak attendance was close to 100,000 on race day. No other sponsor/promoter has even close to matching Molson's tenacity at the time.

2. Tobacco advertising ban. Once tobacco was no longer able to advertise, they saw no point in continuing to sponsor teams and drivers. Players Ltd put a ton of money into developing Canadian drivers, so there was always a local rooting interest.

3. CART/Indycar ugliness. I can get into more details here, but the short version is that a rather large apathy grew due to infighting amongst car and track owners. The apathy got so large that test patterns were getting better ratings than CART and/or Indycar racing. That apathy still exists today.

I was watching the Honda Indy / go-kart slash bumper cars fiasco and falling asleep while doing so ....... flipped over to the Senior TT race from the Isle of Man instead ... Now that's some REAL racing ..... Nascar , Indy Cars, even F1 can't hold a candle to the TT , motogp or World Superbike IMHO....
Cheers, Les
