First time poster.

I need some help!. I'm deciding to get one of 2 bikes:

1. Honda Grom
2. Cleveland Misfit

I will be mainly using it for short commute to work and running errands around downtown toronto. I do not plan on taking it out to the highways. Love the style of the misfit but concerned with the reliability but the Grom is more practical and I can ride it harder without killing myself but it doesnt inspire me with its looks.

which one should I get?

i should mention that the Grom will be 4200 OTD while i can get a used (300km) misift for 3200 OTD. Does price factor into the decision?

Grom is EFI the Misfit is not. Grom being Honda will have a reliable parts chain. Grom is smaller however which does bring up the visibility aspect and ergonomics as well. If it's too small you won't like it, you need to sit on them both.

Consider the Suzuki TU250X.

One has Honda (reputable) behind it. The other, I believe, is cheap, made-in-China junk.

FYI if the Honda Grom is too physically small for you, the CBR125 is back in the lineup for 2014, and the new-body-style (2011-on) CBR125 is a very good bike.

Man I want the grom so bad. I just can't justify another bike. I'm trying to convince my wife to pick up riding and buy it for "her".

I'm hearing good things about Honda.

You'll be fine on a grom if you decide to go down that route.

+1...

Saw a CBR125 today in my travels and it is a nice bike.

These others might make a good choice for the OP as well:

TU250 (already mentioned):

GW250:

hmm...most votes are for the Grom. Are there no misfit owners? China made doesnt instantly equal junk. want to see if anyone can comment on the reliability

There's also the Sym Wolf 150 that is made in Taiwan. I saw one downtown it even has a tach and centrestand. It's small but for an urban core it's probably just fine.

Is there someone who sells the Misfit in the G.T.A.? My concern would be reliability and availability of parts. If you went the CBR 125 route you could pick up one used which has already depreciated and sell it in a couple of years for pretty much what you paid for it. The Grom and Misfit will likely end up new purchases with the higher pricing that goes along with it.

The savings in buying a used CBR 125 might pay for a year's insurance and some gear.

If you really like the look of the Misfit you should check out the Suzuki TU 250. I suspect you could modify it to look more like the Misfit but you have Suzuki parts and reliability behind you. If you go to flip it there would likely be a decent selection of buyers because smaller cc bikes are in demand and being a known commodity it would move. The Misfit would be -presumably- a harder sell down the line due to fears of reliability and parts availability. Just some things to take into consideration.

moteretta on college sells both grom and misfit.

The tu 250 is a damn fine looking motorcycle imo. It also has the benefit of sitting you a little higher than the grom which will make it easier to see and be seen in urban traffic. Same displacement as the misfit so theoretically no difference in insurance. Plus side is Suzuki reliability.

Sorry, but I don't get the Grom. 4Gs for 8hp? It looks like a fun pit bike, but nothing more.

GW250, ugly though it is, is likely the best value and most sensible choice.

Neither, check out a cbr125, same/less insurance cost, better bike. Good used ones can be had for under 1800. The misfit just has no history. I have ridden plenty of other no name hondahawasazuki clones and none of them last like the real thing, give the offshore brands a decade to improve (maybe).
