I'm putting a new metal roof on my 14x21ft shed out back. I went up to Fenelon Falls to the Mennonite's for the metal. Cheapest prices around and they have about 15 colours to choose from.

Put a red metal roof on my old house up north...20' x 35' and 25' x 35' and 2 porch roofs. Never have to reroof again that's for sure.

DAMN! That looks pretty good!
I wish I was that handy. I'm always too scared to take on projects like that. I fear I might mess something up and waste all the money and time i put into it.

I've always wanted a HUGE deck in a backyard with multi-levels and what not, but my backyard isn't that big. So that's my excuse lol

good looking deck. We are about to start cleaning up and prepping our deck for a makeover. Any links that you found really handy?

Nice job.. from the pics it looks unleveled;)... i could spend all day posting my Reno project lol

Start with small projects first...get good tools. Practice...makes perfect. Handy...lol.....we are not magicians or anything at all....we just learned to observe ask tons of questions...try yourself...fail...improve next time. I thank my dad for kickin my *** and forcing me to do all the chores I didn't wanna do...guess what? I learned stuff.
My deck is simple and strong nothin too fancy. Fits the size of the house.

Even I learned somethin for the next deck....building the stairs I should have built them along with the framing before putting the decking on...because my stairs are undermounted and need some bracing and such....was a lil frustrating intalling them by myself laying in the dirt cursin....lol. Live and learn

Unleveled...lmao....ya right. I do keep the deck raised about 1/2" over the beam for pier settling.
I'm a bit of a perfectionist...if it ain't workin out...never afraid to tear apart and try again. I did have one 2x10 part of the beam...alot wider than the rest a good 1/4 inch but I notched it for the floor joist to sit on.

I didn't really use any links in particular....I already had it figured out....my only site I checked out was the Newmarket town building code and Barrie site cuz it was easier to follow. This site had some interest though...

I hear ya!
I went to Home Depot and took a couple of those "Info Session" classes on how to make a stone patio (I wanted to do it for my parent's as a gift) but it seemed like a lot of work for a single person. So I gave up on it and got them an iPad instead lol.

Funny thing is that i'm not the kinda person who gives up on things. I will keep trying to do it till i get it, but renos is ONE THING i fear. I don't know why?!? I'm pretty handy around the house otherwise. Just feel scared doing big projects.

Looks perfect, you must watch the home improvement shows.
Nice footings, stairs are legit, well capped, i approve, therefore it is good. :D

Into this major Reno right now. My house is a 90 year old cottage which many "handyman's" have owned over the years. Needless to say it's been a crazy long process over the last 10 years but this will be the end of it. The existing add-on done sometime in the 80's was resting on railway ties and was completely rotten. We tore it off and extended to add a proper mud room and enlarge the kitchen. The last pictures is how she looked this morning.

Good work...in a perfect world I'm sure it would have been easier to tear the whole thing down and rebuild.
You do the cement work yourself? Had a cottage/house in Pefferlaw and deal with some of the same issues. Crawl spaces gotta love them...lol.

In a perfect world your right. I gutted the inside down to the studs and rebuilt everything with the help of friends and family over the years. The footing/foundation was subcontracted for the addition. I have a GC overseeing the project. I have learnt over the years to use skilled trades people here and there and do the inbetween stuff your self to speed up the permit side of things which also lessons the chance of having to do things twice.

As mentioned in another thread, I've been building a new house for about a year. Down to doing the flooring right now, so hopefully be in it in a couple of months, if the old house sells. I had some pics from the early stages, but someone stole the camera. Maybe I'll get my wife to take some when she's out next time and I'll try to post them.
