Home heating via Propane?

Looking at a potential property and thought I'd toss out a question.

Property is on well water, septic and heated via propane (rented tank)
This style of tank (see below). Anybody use this method for home heating? What is your average yearly cost?

I have no issue with any of this so no plans to change, but heating via propane is new to me.
No sewage or gas hook up available (just the way I want it)

Depends on the area there are companies that fill it at a preset schedule, and price. So very difficult to have a price.

Some companies will actually install a sensor and transmitter that will send out a text message to their dispatch at 20-30% remaining and they’ll automatically come and refill.

Buddy uses a service like that north of Algonquin.

IIRC propane will cost about 200% of the cost of gas and 66-75% of forced air electric.
IF you do want to change there are lots of grants to convert petro heat to heatpump. Heatpump is about 66-75% of gas, geo-thermal heat pump is even more efficient. Got a pond or river?

Yes to pond. As nothing is certain at this point (still early) not considering any changes. But I'll see if I can get this information.

Like other heating it depends on how big your house is and how good your insulation is.
Yearly typical cost for a newer 5400sq ft house is $2000 in propane cost.

Edit: with a heat pump the yearly propane cost drops to $700 and the monthly electricity statement over the winter months increases about $60.

My parents have a much smaller house and higher bill than hw but house is ~50 yo. Heat pump can drastically reduce propane bill. They are 3-4k with a heat pump and standby generator.

a professionally installed home standby generator is easily $8000 to 15,000 alone.... plus heat pump.

Watch the rates superior is almost 2x the cost of fuels I own my propane tank so anyone can fill it. That being said we have geothermal heat pump and our hydro bill is around 400 month year round heating, cooling plus hot tub and heat pump for the pool. Propane is only for the backup generator and fireplace which never gets used.

That is interesting, as stated I'd have to run the existing system to get a handle on it, then look into options.

A neighbour is a manager for one of the energy companies and they have a propane division. Not unlike seven year olds with bubble gum cards, they, like most huge companies, trade, move and sell divisions. He can't wait to retire.

I can't recall if it was the carbon tax or other government horse whipping but propane wasn't given the same consideration as CNG.

Propane prices are all over the place. I can fill my 18 pound BBQ tank for a little bit more than a 1 pound disposable.

Are there any regulations for pricing?

@Jampy00 forgot to mention. My buddy used Budget Propane at $0.7/L fixed season price.

His cottage used a handful of times costs him $2000/year to keep cottage and water heated. Also had a heated floor in the garage.

Not cheap.
