Looking for someone that does electrical work in the Brampton area. Would like the AC unit re-wired. The Ac service man says that there is a short in the wiring.

Any leads?

I know a great guy in B town who does A/C work ... i would have to wait till i get to work to get his number.

You might find it via google. Fire & Ice Heating / Cooling ...

Might need a sparky to come and look at the mess before calling in a mechanic, especially if there's damage at the panel. Once you get the electrical sorted out (with the unit disconnected), then it's time to call in a mechanic.

Hate to say this, but I was right :D

Whatta gwan. My father and uncles are electricians, so maybe you can give him a call.

I'll edit this with the contact info once I'm done making this pesky website.

Can't help you with sparkeys and you have to get that fixed before a mechanic will touch your system. Due to its age, it will most likely be a full re&re since R22 is getting expensive as ****.

It might be the contactor, it sparks....but contactor is probably not bad, more of a short in the high voltage side, have to have it checked out by a PRO. but no one wants to come out...everyone is busy :(

Where in brampton are you located and what time are you home?

I can probably swing by after work one night.

So here is the verdict....called up a few people....everyone busy....most of the independent HVAC guys are more interested in putting in new units rather than looking at what was wrong with my unit.

Called these people up Brampton Air Systems Ltd ...one of their tech's lives in our neighborhood...came by. It was the contractor + the compressor wire kept grounding out, so he fixed it all and cleaned out the condenser unit while he was at it. Took a few hours - but very NICE people at their office and the service guy was very nice and informative. Also helped get more air flow upstairs by moving the baffles around.

House was 30 DEG at 5pm....and was a cool 22 DEG this morning....ac cycles on / off nicely now.

Was told that I had a 2 Ton unit - which apparently was surprising for a 1200 SQ.feet house...as most contractors are putting in 1.5 TON which cycle a lot more (I guess they'r cheaper....)

Actually 1.5T would be better for the application as you want it to cycle a bit more as opposed to shortcycling.. Removes more humidity and it's easier on the equipment. Considering how old the unit is, you lucked out.

The guy from Brampton Air system was mentioning that the 2 TON unit would get rid of latent heat better than a 1.5 TOn would....

Yeah...I GOT LUCKY...but no leaks or anything in the unit. It was just a bad contactor + the compressor motor kept grounding out.....so it was a good affordable repair. :)

PS> thanks for all your help!!!!

This guy should be fired for misdiagnosing your problem.

.

well I think he should give me back my $50 that he charged for the house call! :(
