was out for a ride today on the eastbound 401 rear end got really swirly I managed to get to the shoulder and what do i see a gash in the rear tire. Very happy that the tire didnt just blow out on me. Turns out the long wait was because the flatbed drivers from guelph dont want to come out so i had to wait for a truck from kitchener after calling in and asking why it was taking so long as they told me i was priority since i was on the side of the highway.

Thank god it didn't wipe you out. I've had a few close calls on the 401 with extra large pylons and front bumpers in the lane
 
that sucks, I doubt that is patchable (especially since anything that wide probably destroyed some belts).

Depends how big that gash it on the inside...you can patch it up with a mushroom patch.
 
i would always say patch it but to mushroom plug it IMO isn't worth it in your case.
you are at your wear bar in the center and don't have much left on the tire.
I would have just put a plug in it from the outside to drive it to the closest place carefully to get a new tire in your case.
 
I found a piece of metal that was jammed right into my tire similar to how yours. I pulled it out and no air leaked. 9,000km later I'm still okay...*knock on wood*

...now I'm paranoid ; ;
