My ex500 was in storage since last winter - winterized.
After the initial start up, the bike tends to idle at 4000rpm.
Would a Seafoam treatment clear the high idle?
Warm the bike up to operating temperature and adjust the idle to ~1200-1300rpm. There is a little adjustment knob under the carbs that you turn to adjust the idle. Might be just set too high. If that does not work then you may have other issues.
Did you drain the carbs and bowls before you stored it?
Also since you recently started it, did you put in fresh gas?
I had a feeling it was the idle settings, I read some forums yesterday on this. It worked like a charm today, however, I might still do some of the seafoam to do a quick clean.
Probably not a bad idea to run a little Seafoam. If you are going to store it again and you don't have any existing carb issues just make sure you add the required amount of Seafoam to a full tank of gas, run the bike with the petcock off till it stalls and drain the carb bowls. If you that you should have no problems in the spring.
Note taken, I'm planning to sell is soon anyways. I told the buyer the 'issue' beforehand, he suggested seafoam that's why I asked. You learn something new everyday.
