HID Light Compatibility

Hey guys, my brother got me some HID lights for my bike as an early christmas gift. Since I'm not too tech savvy, I'm wondering if these bad boys will fit on my Ninja 400. Or is there any thing in the manual I should look for (ie: matching up watts or something). Thank you.

There are many different kinds of bulbs that are used on motorcycles, H4, H10, H11, 9004, etc etc......The HID kit you buy needs to have the correct bulb type to fit into your headlight housing, so first you need to find out what type of bulbs your bike has, then you need to get an HID kit with that bulb type to fit without having to mod anything....

My bike uses H11 and H7 so if I want HID kit for my bike I buy a kit with those bulb types

The kit you posted is a H7 bulb style kit, so it would replace a regular H7 bulb

My manual doesn't say what kind of bulb it has. But ive been looking online for the 2011 Ninja 650 (Same parts used on the 400 for the most part) OEM parts and they seem to be labeled as H7. Do you think I'm safe to open the box? Cause if I do I cannot return it if they do not fit afterwards.

Call up daytona motorsports, they are local and their kits are top quality. Cheaper vs that kit too. They can help you figure out exactly what bulbs you need. http://daytonamotorsport.com/index.php?l=page_view&p=contact_us

If you have access to the bike just look at the back of the bulbs they will be labeled. If it's h7 then you have the correct bulb type

Managed to do this, it said nothing about being an H7, It said Stanley SN911-01200 Which i'm assuming is either a serial number or a different kind of bulb.

Edit nvm: found a post on the internet that this serial number is an h7

Sometimes they put the markings on the inside, and you would have to remove the blub to see it. Other times its on the back but very faint or hard to read...

This is an example of the markings

Im 99 percent sure they are H7's so I might just open the box soon. However, this bike hasnt been safetied yet and I have to go get it safetied in the spring. Should I install the HID conversion kit now or will this compromise the safety portion of the motorcycle?

Really depends where you take it for the safety, some shops are really anal about everything others let things slide....If your HID kit is anything over about 4000K it will have a bluish tint to it which in truth is illegal.....

Also I wouldnt worry too much if you get the wrong bulb, just the bulb is around $30 to replace, the rest of the kit (ballast) is the same for all bulb types....So worst case youd just have to swap the bulb

Alright so I took the headlights out and unplugged the wiring. But I can't for the life of me figure out where anything plugs into where. I'm so confused and my lack of electrical knowledge doesn't help

These are the pictures of the plugs on the conversion kit and the plugs on my bike, respectively.

Any help?

The red wire plugs directly into the positive terminal of the headlight plug on the bike, and the black wire plugs into negative (ground). Can't tell you what colour positive is, but Kawasaki generally uses black/yellow for ground. You are on your own for figuring out where and how to secure the ballast and control box.

Thank you guys for all your help. Much appreciated.
